That is a lovely picture. You appear to have captured the heart of the territory you will trek. It is only a matter of time until you cross paths with the elk.

Oh, yeah, I did enjoy trekking through such territory during past hunts. I can relive some of the beauty through pictures and reports such as you've provided.
 
I’m pretty lucky, just under 15 minutes from the house.

Used to be good mule deer country, mostly white tails now.

They haven’t been here that long with the exception of a few isolated areas. They started showing up in the early 90s on forest service ground in NE Oregon. Maybe mid 80s on farm ground.
Essentially drifted into Idaho then Washington finally swimming the Snake River.
