So being a diehard 6.5 fan I don't know how I missed this one. Its a stretched 6.5-284 to '06 length with a 35 degree shoulder and 81gr H2O capacity. RPM stands for Rebated Precision Magnum. first non venturi shoulder non belted Weatherby cartridge. designed for their backcountry sub 5 lb rifles. Factory loading are rather anemic with a 127 LRX at 3225, a 140 Accubond at 3075 and an Interlock at 2975. Seems to me its not filling a roll that the 264WM or the 6.5-06AI aren't already(or the 6.5 PRC). Any thoughts and why doesn't Fotis have one of those $3400 4.6 lb rifles in this cartridge yet?

IMO the 6.5 RPM will be obsolete before anyone even knows what it is. Lets see how much enthusiasm and corporate support there is for another (non-exciting) 6.5 cartridge.

Now a 4.6 lb factory rifle is exciting but at $3,000+ it seems like a deal killer to me.

Yeah with the 26 nos, 264 WM, PRC, etc etc, everyone wants their own 6.5. Seems like there’s enough and the market needs to weed out a few at this point. I mean right now the only spot open is sub grendel, (6.5 blackout???) and a necked down 50 bmg. You can have a new cartridge for every 100 FPS if you like from 2300-3200 right now.

coop its funny you put it that way I have opposite ends in my stable right now with the Grendel and on the other end my 26 Nosler. I feel like I need a middle child but it wont be this one. I am currently looking at the M70 FW stainless in 6.5 Creedmoor to fill the void.

I really like the 6.5’s, I only have one because I don’t have much use for one here often. I carried a 6.5 on Kodiak once, I won’t do that again!

If I end up down South again, I might have a grendel, CM, maybe one of the hotter ones.

I’ve been wanting an X-bolt pro for a bit now, if I can just find a place to get my hands on one to feel it, I’d probably have one in CM now.

My guess is that the Weatherby people will keep it around regardless of sales numbers. For that matter, they keep nearly all their cartridges alive despite what has to be some really low volume numbers for some of them.

For the moneyed up sheep hunter, it's probably the bee's knees. I'm probably out at that price point, but for a mountain specialist, it makes a compelling value proposition.

As I have a 6.5x55 and a Creedmoor and am very happy with both, my interest in another is one capable of 3100-3200 fps with a 140 gr bullet. Not really interested in either the Wby or Nosler. Never really been intrigued by the 264 Win Mag either, even though I really like the 7 Rem Mag and 338 Win Mags.
Like the 6.5-284 but am leaning more towards the PRC.
If the 6.5-06 was a commercial cartridge, I would consider it a good match to the 280 and 338-06. Just do not really want another wildcat.

Speaking of 6.5’s. So there I was, minding my own business looking at a few rifles. I normally prefer Rem based actions, but I just loved that Winchester Extreme Weather on the wall. Light, nice stock, fluted, flush magazine. I asked to look at it, oops! Well I finally joined the creedmore club.

I probably won’t use it to it’s potential as I plan on Partition 140’s, but ought to be a fun little deer/antelope gun

I had no idea about this new round until this thread was started. I was thinking strongly about the 6.5 PRC so this one also interests me. When I had my 264 WM I ran it at the same speeds as the 6.5 Weatherby PRM 3000-3100 with 140's and 3200 fps with the 130 gr class of bullets.

In the comments below this video Weatherby says they are working on a left hand titanium action which is cool, I do hope they offer a cheaper version as well so I might be able to afford one  Even if it isn't the most popular round Weatherby has a good track record of supporting their rounds. It will be interesting to see how it fares compared to the 6.5 PRC since they have essentially the same performance.

Purpose built for the small 6 lug action
Easily rechamber any standard action
No more belt for belt haters
Also- street price on wby rifles is never near weatherby msrp. No need to buy a titanium mark v
The weather mark lt weighs 5# 9oz. That's plenty light
Give it a year and it will land in the vanguard line
I think a 7mm rpm will be the bees knees though.
