Africa is cheap compared to hunting North America. I'm Canadian and I can't do a Canadian moose or caribou for what I can do a 10day African all inclusive hunt in South Africa. Think $3500 5 animals plus airfare. I went 2014, May this year and headed back May 2016. It is a disease now
I've been to SA twice 2014 and 2015 and have never had my ammo checked. The SA police are only interested in the rifle. As others have said pack it in a lockable box (cash box) for the airlines
I've been twice and they are very expensive. Check out SS Pro Safaris and book through Discount African hunts https://www.discountafricanhunts.com/
John will get you what you are looking for. $3500 for 10 days minus the Kudu with animals is a steal. I was there in May and it was great
My experience in both 308 and 223 is that Federal is more consistent in weight but it is so soft that primer pockets loosen up quickly. not many reloads
It makes very interesting reading, thanks. Unfortunately I haven't seen anything comparing jacketed to copper. Some people think copper bullets will drop anything that moves  out of a marginal caliber but it would be nice to see something more scientific.
Many South Africans hunt with a 308 using 130gr GS Custom bullets. One PH said he got a complete pass through on an eland bull using that combo. Your 3006 is the most popular hunting rifle over there and with good bullets (and shooting) will take down all plains game species up to eland.
I have a Savage 10fp 20" 308. It shoots hot, cold, clean dirty and the cold barrel shot is no different than hot. I have run Barnes ttsx 150gr to 2800 but the BC is pathetic. 180 accubonds at 2570 nets me 0.5" groups and retains 1500 lbf out to 400 yds. you lose about 25fps for every inch...
Take the time to heal up it is worth waiting.
As for components here in Ottawa it is slim pickings. Lets hope that when Republicans take over the Senate the shortages will ease up a bit
105 VLD hunting. Berger claims 1:8 and they are right. I'm at 500 ft above sea level and it was cold. Some people get away with them up high and in hot weather.
I agree the SST can be a bit of a bomb but I will be hunting Mountain Reedbuck only about 120lbs and the shots will be well over 100yds
Well I have a great load for the 95 sst. 46.5 H4381 @ 3026 less than 0.5 moa.
The 105 Bergers were a disaster. while they shot about 1.5 moa this summer I was lucky to get 1 foot in the cold weather. 1:9.125 twist isn't going to cut it.
Thanks for everyone for the help
Thanks for the help guys. Data is all over the place as far as charge weights. I'll just have to dive in and try before the weather really sours. Snow on the ground already
good shooting. Thanks for the info. I was thinking of loading some in the 243 instead of the superformance gmx just in case something larger crossed my path when hunting for Reedbuck and impala
Hey Fotis
GS Custom is interesting but ghastly expensive. How do they perform at lower velocity? I hear the price will be dropping soon to make them more competitive. Their website should reflect this in a couple of weeks
