Hey all, im pretty new to the forum. I must say I really enjoy it. Just thought I would share some pics of my 2010 hunting season.

First was my spring bear taken in late may. The bear measured 6'5ft and has a 19inch skull.
One shot with a 180gr Partition from my 300 win, dropped him where he stood, thank god, because I was by myself and he was really really heavy!

After that was a moose trip in late sept-oct. I got lucky and jumped this bull with a cow out of their beds on the first day, I chased it through the swamp till i could get a shot off. I made two shots through the willows with my 300 mag with a 180gr TSX and he went down and then another in the neck to finish it off (shoulda stayed with the partitions i guess)

After that we headed home and I did some deer hunting, I was sitting on a hillside one sunny morning watching a bull moose chasing cows around a cut block when this 4x4 mulie walked over the ridge in front of me. One shot from my .280 Rem and a 140gr Partition stopped him in his tracks.

I also popped a few yotes throughout the winter, shot this one with my .243 with a 58gr vmax.

Now im just waiting for spring to get here and start bear hunting again!

It was indeed a good season for you. What region were you hunting?

Welcome and thanks for sharing the great pictures. What a great season you had. I bet that fat old bear was good eating! Isn't that 280 Remington a sweet heart of a gun!

Dr.Mike, all were shot near Kamloops except the moose which was near Mcbride. I recently got rid of the .280, i liked the cartridge but i didnt like the gun, so i traded it for a 270 wsm, which i am loving so far.

I was in Valemount for some time, so I do know the area around McBride. Lovely country, to be certain. Before moving farther north, I used to hunt quite a bit in the Nazko area and out of Savona travelling up Deadman Creek beyond the Vidette Gold Mine toward Hihium. Near Kamloops, I spent quite a bit of time west of the Skeetchestn Reserve. In fact, I dropped my first mule deer atop a mountain in that area. I have many pleasant memories of these areas. Again, you did quite well this past season. Congratulations. And I do like the 280. I'm working up loads for a new rifle chambered in that cartridge right now. I just finished a series of loads for a 270 WSM which I hope to shoot when it warms next week.

Great pictures a very, nice pretty bear, beautiful thanks for sharing, you are right, stay with the Noslers.! The pack frame laying in the road against the truck can you give out the model and make ? I use a Camptrails Freighter right now but always looking at new technology!

Thats just my eberlestock pack, I just use it for a day pack, I cant remember the model, but i think it is called the "gunslinger" you can fold out the bottom and it'll hold your rifle. Which is nice. Ive never used it to pack meat yet, i have a diff pack for that but im sure you could with it.

What an awesome year you had. Congrats on all the awesome animals. I am pretty jealous.

If you liked the 280, you are going to LOVE the 270WSM. It is an awesome cartridge with alot of juice. Get some 140-150gr PT's and you will be in heaven. It shoots flat and hits with some really serious power.

That is a dream year for a guy like me. Keep the pictures coming and welcome to the forum! Scotty

Thanks. So far all i have shot with the 270wsm is paper, but i love this gun so far! Ive finally found some 140gr accubonds to load up.

SR80,

I'm stuffing mine with 130 grain E-Tips: good velocity, excellent accuracy, and a hammer on moose. I haven't felt the need for more mass with the performance I've seen so far.

I took an elk, muley and a few whitetails with the 140gr AB. Good bullet, but for heavier game, if that is the use, the PT is a better choice, or the ET. Just prefer the PT as the 270WSM can really makes bullets scream. It is a little extra insurance. Scotty

Yep - definately jealous ! Fine looking animals you were able to take.

Too bad about the .280, however I'm sure the 270wsm will step right in and fill the shoes.

I "HAD" to buy a 270wsm to fill the numerical gap between my .260 & .280

Just wondering what kind of velocity your getting with the 130 etips? And what kind of powder?

SR80,

Those are some beautiful animals. Congratulations on a great season.

WLR primers, 59.5 grains of RL17 yields3257 +/- 14 fps and 0.4 inch groups in my Featherweight. This is not a maximum load, but it works quite well for me.

Wow, that sounds pretty amazing Dr.Mike! I might have to give those etips a try, I am really curious about these bullets. I bought a box for my old .280 that I traded in, but never ended up getting to try them. Ive read 0.050-0.100 from the rifling for optimal accuracy. Im wondering what you found in regards to this? Thanks.

For E-Tips (and TSX), I load around 0.100 off the lands. Interestingly enough, GMX requires loading near the lands as if they were a cup-and-core bullet. Different metallurgy; different bullet. I've had very good success with the E-Tip in all the loads I've tried so far. They were not necessarily the most accurate in my various rifles, but they were one of the top three loads in most rifles I've tried so far. Consequently, I've accumulated a good supply of E-Tips for a variety of loads. I recommend them to people looking for a good hunting bullet that will maintain integrity at high impact velocity while delivering accuracy. Without new Premier here in BC, I will not be surprised to see legislation outlawing lead in bullets shortly. I don't agree with it, but the Liberals (liberal for our American friends) and NDP (socialist for our American friends) will move us in that direction. I want to be ahead of the curve. Long story short, the 130 grain E-Tip is giving me excellent performance in my 270 WSM (http://www.noslerreloading.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11566).

sounds good, i will try and get a box tonight on my way home and hopefully try them this weekend.
