My 15 year old son dumped a nice 6x8 bull elk in Wyoming during the fall of 2007. His .300 WSM was having trouble so he ended up hunting with my .270 WSM loaded with 130 grain AccuBond bullets. We found 8 bulls late in the morning feeding on the far side of a large meadow. After an hour and a half of soft occational cow and calf calls the bulls made their way up the meadow to where my son could take a shot. His first shot hit the largest bull in the left hind quarter (he's going to need to work a little harder so that doesn't happen again). The second shot missed all together and the third shot connected behind the right front shoulder. We checked the bull over pretty good and couldn't find any exit wounds, but we couldn't find any bullet remains inside the elk either. Regardless, the vitals had been scrambled by the AccuBond which resulted in a quick kill. This was my son's first big game animal so I didn't want to take his moment away by dwelling on the hind-end shot. As you can imagine he was pretty excited.
I'm not sure how to post photos on this forum. If someone can tell me how to do it I'll post a couple of pics you can look at.
