Did some more shooting today did some verification of some stuff I was working on. It was a cold day at 24 degrees but with no wind I figured it was worth a shot. I had some verification loads for the 22-250 and some test loads for the 338 to shoot. I started off with the 200 BT over 56 gr of 4895. It shot about 1.2" at about 2830. The other day this load was shooting around 2880 in 45-50 degree weather. I also had some test loads using CFE223 to test. Starting at 52 gr and working up to 62. I was able to shoot all of them and the 61-62 loads grouped into one inch. The 62 gr load clocked at 2917 with no signs of pressure. I believe it will let me work up to 64 gr with very slight compression. In the middle of these I shot the 22-250. By this time I was chilled and had a tough time feeling my fingers or the trigger. I had 10 loaded under 39 gr of CFE. It proved my last group was no fluke. These shot really well with the ones after the fouler and the times I didn't pull off target into a .220" group for 5. These were also a touch slower than the other day but still averaged 3754 ES 63 SD 21. With the 2 highs and two lows out it look like this 3752 ES 32 SD 12 I finished the day out with 6 225AB over 4895 which averaged 2680 ES 27 SD 10 accuracy wasn't quite what I wanted but by that time I was shaking pretty good. So it might be worth a better look.

Nice shooting for the temps you were in. I've been wanting to get out as well, but we have been having the same or colder temps...not very conducive to shooting tiny groups.

Very nice!!!!!!! I like shooting when its cool as long as the wind stays away. The air seems clearer. Sounds like a nice day!!

Yes cool is good but today was a little frigid. I was pretty happy. I'm really glad the 22-250 shot as well as it did now I have 200 rounds to load. I think I can press the 338 up to 2950 with a 200 and around 2900 with a 210. If so it will be right where I'd hoped it would be before I decided on it. Thanks guys!

That has to qualify as gratifying for you, Jake. Good show, man.

Looking good!

Unfortunately, I won't be able to get out to the range for a while around here, we are in the middle of a good 'ole fashion blizzard. Wx guy calling for 8-17" of snow and winds 20-45 mph. Definitely gonna be a white Christmas.

Great shooting Jake. I am very interested in your 225 AB load. Your nipping right at 2700 and that with a 225 AB should be an awesome combo as well. The 210 PT's at around 2900 should be very good too! Way to go buddy. Sounds like that 338 is going to do great things for you. Your giving up very little to a Win Mag.

We just caught the edge of it here in Mpls. Not enough to warrant getting the snow blower out, but there is supposed to more coming. Where are you at in Sconnie?

Just remember Jake....if we try and use them on real deer and elk, the bullets will bounce off. :p From what I've been told they only work for woodchucks and smaller.

Thank God Joel brought that up Jake.. I had no idea you would be using it for elk and deer. I thought since you were testing it with your 22-250 it was going to be your 2nd varmint rifle!

Darn woodchucks sure do eat well though...

I'm hoping to get it to shoot one hole groups. I need a close up rabbit/coyote gun they are pretty scarry. I got some test loads for the 225's loaded up too which I think will do a little better. Maybe after Christmas if the weather cooperates.

Looks like your 338-35W is shaping up nicely and those are great velocities. Do I remember correctly that this is a M70 build?
It looks like your 22-250 likes CFE. What bullet are you using with that? I'm assuming 50 or 52gr?

Yes, a Pre-64 M70. I am really enjoying it so far. Yes that 22-250 is liking that CFE thats the 2nd group I've shot with that load 39.0 gr 2.400" COAL 55BT WLR primer the other if I remember 3 shot went .264" this 5 went .220". It was a little slower this time at 24 degrees but at 50 its over 3800.

That .338-06 should be a winner Jake. It looks as though you are getting good velocities and groups.

Wow! I just looked at CFE in my books and it does look very nice for the 22-250. I really thought that with that velocity you were using 50gr bullets. Those are easily within the 220Swift arena. I'd like to try the CFE out with the 60gr NP or 64gr BSP. A 64gr at 3450fps would be intense.
