I had similar results as flakjkt 150 gr 30-06 loads that killed deer well but no exit wound . Moving up to 165's cured that. Now my 95 gr 243 bt's have always given me exit wounds unless I put it throught the shoulders. Infact one drilled through 1 1/2 " sapling before getting to the deer and...

I have been using a OAL of 2.48 with the 50 gr bullet and 37 grs. of varget out of my rem VLS It consistently shoots in the 4's :grin:

I have both cartridges and I would say go with the 25 wssm In my opinion the recoil isnt much differant and when it comes to deer I rather have the larger caliber

While the 270 win is does not have excessive recoil. I would have suggested a 7mm-08 for a 14 year old , either would be on the light side for moose in my opinion.
