More musings on RL26 and 30-06

After finding success with RL26 and 180 NABs, with great speed and accuracy, I got to wondering if enough powder under a 165/168 to get similar results, or if I should just stick to RL17? Could someone please run a QL for my 22” Savage 116 and Tikka T3 using RL26, WW casing, Fed215, and 165 or...

Two touching, one an inch away

Alright, I’ve been reloading for years, and have had this phenomenon occur before, with other rifles and loads, but I’ve always been able to “tune it out” by tinkering. I can’t really point to any one thing that I’ve done in the past to fix it, but these 168 TTSXs in my new Tikka T3 30-06 are...

    I’m going to try unleaded

Not for the reason that many people do. It’s not required in my area, I don’t need uber penetration, and I have always gotten great performance out of Accubonds. It has to do with a meal that my family was eating the other night. Venison spaghetti. My 7 year old daughter was eating hers...

Update: 308 I4350 Range Day: interesting twist

As some of y’all helped me out in finding loads, you may remember that I was trying to develop a load for my .308 Win Savage 10 with I4350 and 165 and 180 Nosler BT/ABs. I found good accuracy with the 165s using Nosler book max, which also happened to be its accuracy load: 50gr I4350, Win brass...

    QL Request: 308 165 I4350

I know that the Varget burn speed (4064, RL15, etc) is the ideal powder for this, but I have a big ole jug of I4350 that’s begging to get tried out in this rifle. So far I’m below max speed with RL15 at one accuracy node, so if I lose a few FPS from book max using this powder it won’t hurt me...

    30-06 180 NAB RL26 at 200yd

I took the savage 116 back out again yesterday to run the RL26 load through it again in different conditions and out to 200yd. I ran it fast at 100yd and two shots were almost touching while the third hit about 1 1/4” high. I let it cool and took it out to 100 where I shot 3 slowly, but no real...

308 Win 125 NAB Deer Load Suggestions

I traded into a decent little Savage 10 Youth and would like to develop some loads for my kids to use with 125 NABs. I’d like to stick with powder that I already have, and the Nosler load data says that the below would work. I don’t need to “reduce” them much due to the light bullet, but also...

Back to the range with 30-06 and RL26

2875fps out of a 22” barrel with 180 Accubonds is more than impressive. I’m going to load up some more to test out in different conditions over time.

    RL23 and RL26 in 30-06

I’m not seeing any published recipes from Alliant or Nosler on their websites. Anybody have any experience with them in the 30-06? I know that many swear by RL22 in the 30-06, but RL23 is supposed to be a similar burn rate with better temperature stability.

    Another Accubond Question

As some of y’all may remember, I’ll be going for my first elk hunt this October. I decided that my 30-06 was more than enough fun for elk, and got rid of my 338WM. I’ve had a bunch of experience and success with all flavors of Accubonds in the past, from 140 .270Win - 165 .30-06, from powder...

    165 NAB, 30-06, deer

57gr RL17, WW brass, CCI LR primer, 165 NAB, 2950 FPS, 45 yards, no bullet recovered, 100 yard track. First animal to EVER run after I have shot it with an NAB in ANY caliber. 4.5 year old doe, 86lb dressed.

    65gr SGK

Fired from an M4 AR15 at 60 yards into my younger daughters first deer. Ran under 50yd before piling up. Raining steadily, so I can’t comment on blood trail. No bullet recovered, as it kept on going...

A lot less respect for American Hunter online magazine

I'm not usually one to get wrapped up in an internet article, but this one really rubbed me the wrong way, mostly because it is from an NRA publication and I expect more from them. Poorly written with false facts just to stir the pot. I'd like to know which ballistics table this writer was...

    Silly accurate

Some people don't like Savage rifles, but my 116 30-06 is just silly accurate. Very few of my test loads shot over 1.25", but this is the hunting load that I settled on a few years back, and I've never had a deer take another step after being shot with it. This usually isn't the most accurate...

Elk rifle musings and 30-06 168 TTSX experience

Some of you may remember my recent post about my 338, which I bought for an upcoming "hunt of a lifetime" with my dad next fall. I was perfectly content with my 30-06 until I was convinced by a few that I should get a magnum for that possibility of needing extra oomph for a long range or...

    Best sub-$200 binoculars

I know that part of this will be personal preference and what your eyes see the best through, but I would like to hear some feedback on the best quality binoculars available for under $200, and preferably closer to $150 or less. I'm going to ask for them for Fathers Day, and they will be...

E-tip vs Accubond in 338 WM

Hello all, First time posting on this board. I'm an experienced reloader and hunter with years of experience with 30-06 based cartridges, but felt that I needed a big thumper for an upcoming 2018 elk hunt. I originally bought a 300 Wby and used 180 Accubonds with H4831SC to develop a great...
