    Vortex Rings?

Are Vortex rings a good choice for mounting a scope? Any known issues with them?

    Marketplace Powder Find

Happened to stumble across a local Markeplace find for 15 pounds of a variety of powder for $300. When I got there, the seller added some more for free. Most of them are powders I have used previously but one I am looking to try out for the first time is Big Game in 30:06.

    Salmon at Plympton Creek

Salmon are ready to head upstream at Plympton Creek in Westport, Oregon. At this point they aren’t good for consumption but folks still fish for them.

    6.5 Grendel

Very little trigger time on this Ruger American 6.5 Grendel. It has an old Leupold 3-9 scope. This gun has the worst bolt action of any rifle I have ever shot. I was trying some handloaded 100 grain Ballistic Tips and was happy to see it was doing well enough to use for a deer rifle this fall if...

    Stumpy's Dinner time

This little Blacktail deer is a frequent visitor to the homestead. A couple minutes after filling up on apples he was down at the house looking for more food,

    Caldwell Stable Table

Found this portable Caldwell Stable Table in great shape. Easy and quick to set up and feels surprisingly solid. Hopefully will get a chance to try it out within a few days. For $120 it appears to be a good purchase for somebody who wants a portable bench. I’m 6’4” and was concerned it would be...

    Eagle on the Homestead

A pair of eagles on the homestead with one snacking on an elk ear. A couple nights ago they were both sitting in a tree watching a younger one chow down. A bit long winded video but I enjoyed watching them.

    Lucked Up On Some Bullets!

Found a deal at Walmart several years back. 6.5 Ballistic Tips for $8 a box. Went back a couple days later to buy some more and asked if they were still $8? Guy says no, they’re $5 now. Still using that supply.

    2026 Antlerless Elk

I had some that came from the factory where several of the tips had come off. With the little experimenting I did they went to the same POI at 100 yards.

    2026 Antlerless Elk

Not the exit wound. The shot was from the front and went to the elk’s left side. It was fortunate to catch a lung which saved this from being a bad situation. Interestingly the plastic tip of the Accubond was just under the hide on the entrance. The blood in the photo was when I lifted the head...

    2026 Antlerless Elk

Getting near the end of the antlerless elk season so I was happy to get it done this morning. Rifle is a cheap Savage 270 and the 130 grain Accubond did the trick. Not the best shot but I was able to hit one lung and it went a couple of hundred yards before piling up next to the shooting bench...

    trail cam mount

Good idea. With the new Tactacam cameras you can screw into the back of the camera as well as the bottom so a shorter bolt could be used if available.

    Shooter’s Ridge Voyager Shooting System

NW Oregon didn’t get hit as hard as they did up in Washington. Our home is on a hill so away from any possible flooding personally.
