I just started loading Retumbo in the 338 RUM. I am using 250 gr. Partitions with Fed. 215 mag/match primers. I started at 95 grains working up in 1 grain increments and at 98 grains I was showing pressure signs (slight primer cratering, bolt face marks around primer, and bolt not hard to...
I have an old Remington Model 700 with a factory stainless blued barrel. It loves 71.5 grains of IMR 4350, a 180 grain Partition, and a CCI 250 magnum primer to light it off. 3 shots into a quarter sized group at 100yds. This is just about a max load - I strongly reccomend to reduce...
Hi, for your handloads I recomend using powder in the IMR4064- IMR 4895 burning range. This will assure your rifle will cycle properly and not damage your action. I also use small base dies to size the brass of unknow origins(ie) used or range brass. I load 48 grains of IMR 4064 with a 165...
Sounds like a possible bedding problem to me. Check the clearance with some cardstock. My model 700 had a similar problem. 3rd and 4th shots always flew. Stock was hitting the barrel. Did a little work with the dremel and never looked back
I use a patch soaked lightly with break- free after cleaning. Before I shoot again at the range I run several dry patches. If I am going to go hunt, I always fire several fouling shots before I leave. Most of my rifles I carry afield now are stainless/ synthetic and I really dont worry as much...
I like to use the nickle plated brass for hunting. Corrosion is then not so much of an issue. I hunt/live in Western Washington. In Western Washington, people don't tan- we rust!
What I have noticed is that splits in the necks can occur the second time the nickle plated brass is...
JD 338,
Thanks for the load information for the .338 Winnie & RUM. I will give those powders a shot! The grass is always greener they say....
 Yes, you are correct on the RL 25 data. That is for the .338 RUM. I am grouping around 3/4 of an inch @ 100 yards. I am using a Federal 215...
JD338,
Any pet loads for the .338 Winnie using a 250 gr. Partition using RL 19 or 22?
I mainly hunt elk in Western Washington- its fairly brushy here and I am sold on the Partition's penetration with those tough shots.
I have been using 91 grains of RL 25. Average muzzle velocity is...
