i'm shooting an '06AI and I'm not sure the velocity gain is the big difference for me. I like the fact that I don't have to trim my brass at all. The AI's don't strech as much as the std. cartridges do. You can load almost anything hot and the AI will give you a bit more case capacity, but in...
I'm in full support of getting the 375 even if you never get to go anywhere but the gun range with it. Having that gun will keep the dream alive and give you a piece of that hunt in Africa even if you never make it there.
I got a 416RemMag Winchester Model 70 Custom Shop for my Birthday about...
257,
I am a another 260 lover. I use it for everything inside 300 yards.
You asked for pet loads. My favorite for Deer and such is the 120BT over 45.5g of RL19 with Fed 210M primers.
I too, have shot elk with the 260 and it worked very well. Mine was a neck shot with a 130TSX over 36...
I have done the calibration with a 100 yard zero and it works okay, but for hunting purposes I've gone back to the 200 yard zero. A 200 yrd zero means no thinking for anything out to 200 yards where the animal might get a sense of you and make for a quick shot. At 300 yards or more you will...
I love that B&C reticle. I shot a wild boar at 386 yards in the boiler room with a 2.5-8X. I've had all my Leupolds redone with the B&C. For shooting game it is great. It's worth the time to calibrate your load, as the lines don't always line up exactly, but once that's done it's very...
I think the real benefit to the AI over the standard is that the AI doesn't stretch as much and it headspaces well due to the shoulder angle vs the shallow angle of the standard version.
You have to be carefull because of the straighter sidwalls you can load this baby up and not see pressure signs.
I've not worked up loads for the M7 in 308, but I have in 260. Generally that gun has a thin barrel so you need to give it plenty of time between shots to let the barrel cool.
I'd also bring the charge down to the 44 to 45 grain level with Varget to minimize the barrel vibration. You can...
I ran a ladder test from 44 to 48 grains and got the best accuracy at 45g using Lapua brass and Fed 210M primers 30/1000 from the lands.
I'm not anxious to speed up my hunting loads with the BT since this bullet just doesn't need the velocity to perform. Also, my gun, brass and barrel last...
I agree with everyone on the NBTs, but why not load the same weight ABs and see fi you can't get the point of aim to be the same. I'm guessing that won't be hard to do. If you're loading the 165's you'll be covered. Use the NBT on deer and soft stuff, put the AB in when you hunt bigger and...
Nice Rig! I shoot the 120NBT's with RL19 on Deer and yotes and it is very effective. For Elk and Boar I use the 130g TSX, but I think the 130AB would be a great all round slug, I just haven't had the time to work up the load yet.
For Deer and yotes, I've also used the 100g Nosler Partition...
My favorite rig is a Model 7 in 260. I've shot whitel tails with the 100 grain partitions and the 120 grain BT's and both were very effective. I've also taken Boar out to 386 yards and even one Elk with this round.
Nothing against the sweede, but I don't have one. My only expereince is...
I've got both a 260 and a 6.5-284. I shoot the 6.5-284 in a benchrest long range rig and find it to be a great cartridge for that application. The short action can pose some problems for the 6.5-284 if you want to shoot long skinny 140grain bullets. The case is a bit longer than the 308 (by...
I've had good luck with the 120 grain NBT's and RL-19, it should shoot better than you're getting. You may want to fiddle with charge weight and seating depth a lttle and see if you can't tighten up the groups. My 260 will shoot them under .5" at 100 yrds with a little less powder than your...
