David Petzal wrote an article several years ago IIRC basically saying there wasn't anything the 7RM could do the 270 Win couldn't with similar bullets (140-160 grns compared to 130-150 grns) and typically with a shorter barrel and less powder. I looked at the ballistics in those weight groups...
The 308 Win is a great cartridge. I think it and others like the 7-08 Rem and 270 Win are pushed aside to promote and market the latest greatest cartridge.
I'm a little late coming into this, but I have a M700 Mountain Rifle DM in 280 Rem and have shot mostly 150s and 160s. Mine really likes IMR4831, RL19 & 26 (those two hard to get now) so I'd been working with Viht N560 I had on hand with the 154 and 175 Hornady Interlocks. It really seems to...
Do you have any RL22? In three M700s it shot lights out with both the 130 Sierra Pro Hunter and Game King, usually a pretty good window between 58-60 grains or so. I know H4831 is the first many mention with the 270, but I've found RL22 (and Ramshot Hunter) to both give better velocities and...
The first powder I recommend for the 270 and 130s is RL22. Most seem to steer towards H4831, but RL22 has given me better velocity and accuracy in several M700s. Ramshot Hunter has also been very good.
Looks great! If you've read Hal Bloods books or followed his podcasts tracking bucks in Maine, he prefers a very similar bullet, the 180 Core Lokt RN, which no doubt performs very similarly.
Keep an eye on Gunbroker too...expensive, but if you have a little time, might catch a reasonable deal too:
