Modifying cartridge OAL - Which seating die is best?

Another vote for the Hornady comparator tool. Ogive is the number that seems to matter. Use it to check the Nosler bullets from Shooters Pro Shop sometime and you may have an unpleasant surprise. I bought a used RCBS competition seating die with the open window and adjustment knob. It...

    low velocities from 100gr 25-06.

I sure don't have 1Shot's experience, only been loading for .25-06 for 5 or 6 years, and a few more rifles than that. My best luck with 100 gr has been IMR 4831, 100 gr NoslerBT run around 3200, checked by chrony. I don't think my 117gr loads are as fast as 1Shot's, but cold barrel repeatable...

Factory ammo - charge weight variations.

Don't know about the charge weight, but if you use a comparator gauge check some sometime. Usually the more expensive Federal and Hornady are consistent. The cheaper stuff varies quite a bit, like .010" and more in a box of 20.

Factory 55 gr Nosler BT loads in AR

Thanks for all that, I'll set up the chrony and go from there.

Factory 55 gr Nosler BT loads in AR

I shot some Federal factory loads today, 55 gr NBT, they did real well. Any ideas how to reload to duplicate those ? I got the OAL and length to ogive. Didn't have a chrony, way too hot and humid to mess with that.

270 Win 140 AB Assistance needed

Kinda late to the party, my older Sako .270 is so-so so far with 130's, but pretty good with 140's. It likes IMR 4831 under the Nosler 140 BT, and IMR 7828 under a Hornady 140, I forget the number right off, just a plain jane spitzer. Interlock, I believe.

    .308 Quick Load request

Thanks for that. I'll check it on a chrony when I get time and weather. It's curious, on the Nosler load data site it shows 48 gr IMR 4064 as max, running 2920 fps. That Quick Load says 46.8 as near max, 47.74 as over max dangerous. The Hodgdon data page says 47.7 as max for a 150 gr BT. The...

    .308 Quick Load request

No rush at all. Running 150 gr Partitions, 20" barrel Rem 700, IMR 4064, because I have it on hand. Looks like 46.8 gr was fairly accurate, curious what it's fps. Thanks. Steve

    Partition question

I try to slow myself down, too, when loading. It was the extra checking that turned up the variance. I emailed Nosler, they said to send 'em back and they'd send replacements from a different batch. Nice to see some good customer service, it will keep me coming back.

    Partition question

Just checked a batch of 150 Partitions, seconds, .308, they were fairly close, .494" to .499", only a couple of the longest ones, they seem to shoot well, too.

    Partition question

I recently bought a Sako L61R in .270. I ordered some 140 gr Partitions from SPS. When I got the length to the lands figured I backed off .010" and set the seating die. I usually check a few as I go along. I was going to load 24 rounds, 8 each at different powder charges. As I seated the...

    .308 Rem 700 loads for 150 Partitions

Just bought what I hope is the ugliest rifle I'll ever own, but it fills a slot. Rem 700 SPS, 20" bull barrel, sure enough ugly synthetic stock. Whew. Need something to carry in the truck and on a tractor when working, seem to have pigs moving in. Wanting to load Partitions, have IMR 4064...

    .41 mag hunting load

Ran some 210 XTP loads last year to test thru a Model 57, they were kickish but accurate, upper end W296 loads, if I recall. There's good info on the S&W forum, too. Several 57's and 657's liked those bullets. The old Rem 210's were good bullets but not to be found now.
