I started reloading as a teen using my father's press. I'm not certain, but I believe it was a Herters Model 3 since Herters sponsored him in archery in the 50's and early 60's and he likely got an employee discount on it. That press worked great for my 30-06 and 6 mm Rem. back then; but when...
Thank you to all for some sound advice. The ones that wouldn't chamber were the ones with the government lot code stamping on the head. I'll be tossing all of those casings. The ones with "250 SAV" chambered just fine. I've decided to disassemble everything and, in addition to the gov't...
My father would take a trip annually to the Dakotas to shoot prairie dogs with a variety of rifles and ammo. When he passed in '98 I kept his 22-250 along with a bunch of reloads he had ready for his next prairie dog hunt. I was a normal busy working man back then and never got the gun out to...
Well, when I read about them, I learned that you shoot moly or you shoot copper but not both. I have quite a bit of copper already so I think I'll stick with that.
I've had the one box of 80 of those moly coated bullets in my tumbler with media for twent-two hours and they are really shiny but copper is just starting to show through. After weather warms up a bit I might try acetone on a box of bullets and see how that goes.
Is there a way to chemically clean the molybdenum or will running them in a tumbler remove it? I'm guessing not since it doesn't rub off. I'm betting it was the AR guys using it to try to keep barrels cooler?
Thanks for the response. I had to look it up, and I saw that Sierra did offer it on some product, but the box doesn't say anything about moly coating. Do reloaders coat them themselves? I saw a cautionary note on Sniper Country that says using molybdenum coated bullets can make the barrel...
A friend gave me a variety of .224 bullets that he received from the wife of one of his buddies who was recently deceased. It is 12 boxes of various weights and configurations of bullets. Two boxes are unopened but the rest are open and have varying quantities of bullets used from each of the...
Have you read the American Hunter review? They had difficulty with the gun's accuracy as well and faulted two factors; the trigger response and the barrel heating too quickly, for the poor accuracy. They suggested having a competent gunsmith working out the kinks in the trigger would be needed...
I appreciate your feedback. Looking at Hodgdon data, they recommend the same powder loads for 50 or 55 gr. with different velocities resulting.
I admit I was probably a little over zealous with loading up a hundred rounds. Sitting up here on the frozen tundra called MN in the winter leaves...
Well, this is my first post to the forum but I came here for the same reason. I recently acquired a Model 77 22-250 that came with a few hundred rounds of reloaded cartridges. Not wanting to shoot someone else's reloads, I disassembled them, dumped out the old powder was going to reload them...
