    2026 Hunting Season

We booked for 14-15 April next year already. There were a couple slots still available for those dates. We are taking our oldest son with us next year. It was the best TX hunt I've had so far to date. More than a few major disappointments at other locations. Not Dos Plumas.

    2026 Hunting Season

https://youtube.com/shorts/7jR9kV8hVC Wife and I went pig hunting at Dos Plumas Ranch. Wife had so much fun, she booked us for next year while I was driving us back home. She got her first pig, the smaller one on a stalk hunt, 40 yd shot, standing unsupported. Her second was a 218 lb bruiser...

    .35 Whelen acquired, now optimizing.

So far this is my best group. I lengthened the OAL from the initial test loads. Man, volume really affects this caliber. Every new caliber I reload shows me something to understand. The large bullet diameter really changes how the case and powder charge reacts to length. This is an initial group...

Did you switch to a mag primer or did you shoot this with Large rifle primers?

That helps a lot. I'll creep up to 56.0 and see if the groups shrink. I could see the groups get smaller as I went up in charge weight. I wondered if there was a node just a little higher.

I stopped at 55.5 and the primers were getting pretty flat. 60.4gr is yeesh. Did you ever establish the most accurate charge for your gun? looking for the velocity based on charge that others have found was happy land.

What was your powder charge with the 8208? I ran 54.9-55.5 in increments today and the accuracy was way-meh.

    .35 Whelen acquired, now optimizing.

Well, I ran a quick run up the powder range to 55.5gr, max charge in the Hornady book, of 8208 XBR and the 225 SGK and got 2612 fps. All the rounds from 54.0 to 55.5 in half grain steps index up in a 2-2.5” bullseye. So I’ll play with the top end of this powder and see where the node is. I have...

    .35 Whelen acquired, now optimizing.

So I bought a used Rem 700 in .35 Whelen. It had been shot and had some minor work on it and I think the bottom metal wasn't stock. I don't really care about that as I was setting this up to shoot and learn with. I reinforced the comb, installed Pillars, floated the barrel, and fully bedded...

129 ABLR 6.5 cm, in a sig cross

I just shot this load through my 6.5 CM Cross yesterday. 129gr ABLR 42.3gr H4350 2.815" OAL CCI 200 Hornady Brass I tried 42.5, but the group started to split into two different groups. Clear indication it was above the accuracy node.

7mm PRC 175gr ABLR Muley at 250 yds

Ya. She's one of my shooting students and had never taken a shot at an animal over 30 yds when I started teaching her. She now is shooting 7 PRC with 175gr out to 660 yds with ease. She proned out, dialed her drop based off her guides range call, checked her level and absolutely dropped the...

7mm PRC 175gr ABLR Muley at 250 yds

Not my shot, but my ammo for her. Prone shot on a walking mule deer at approximately 250 yds. It stumbled about 2 yds and drained lots of blood.
