Elk loads this year?

This is whats on the menu this year for elk. 28nos 175 ablr, 300wsm 180scirocco. Both shoot great. Whats everyone else choosing this fall? Happy hunting!

Well I had planned to give the .35 Whelen a spin. Other more important things have arisen making it necessary to sell a few guns, the .35 included.

This year for elk, I am planning to use Golden Ticket. A pre-64 Model 70 .30-06 that I built for use in crappy weather. It shoots great!

The load will be my old standby, the 165 grain AccuBond on top of 56 grains of IMR4350, which produces 2850 fps at the muzzle.

Its been perfect for elk (ditto deer and sheep) in the past.

I didn't draw an elk tag this year. If I did, I would be using my custom M700 338 RUM loaded up with the 250 gr AB at 3100 fps.

338 rum with 250 AccuBond or Berger’s. I do have a 28 that’s a joy to shoot and loves 175 bergers. My youngest son drew an any bull permit and will be packing a 300 win mag with 210 bergers or 210 long range AccuBond. Gonna take what he shoots best . He’s not picky on aquired targets, he is my boy and a creature of opportunity. Can I shoot that one dad, yes son boom gun goes off. He’s not picky. I’d like him to get a nice 6 but he will be happy with whatever and I will proud either way.

Agree completely Jim. My Doctor has forbidden me to scale the heights but my M700 in.338RUM 225 Grain either Partition or Pro Hunter would be first at hand.

I saw a beautiful Whitworth 300 H&H on Guns international yesterday for what I thought was a cheap price! Under $1,300. at a Cabela’s store!!

I always wanted one of these, but I can’t justify buying it.

I’ve been hearing the Cow Elk start talking around my place over the last few days. The temperatures here are crazy high! When the cold air funnels down the mountains surrounding me I could smell them really good too.

I guess it depends on if I hunt the heavy timber, or take a longish less than 600 yard shot for them what I’ll use. I’ll most likely use my recently built 280 AI that shoots really well with 160 Partitions and Ballistic Tips.

I typically run one BT in the chamber and a magazine full of Partitions on mixed bag hunts. I can quickly eject the one in the chamber if needed….. Never had to though.

I almost wish I had not gone with a 26” barrel on that gun! My previous Jarrett 280 AI was originally a 24” that a few years later became a 23.5” bbl. I loved it and never felt handicapped by the length! It shot a lot faster than this one too.

I used a 24” Benchmark CF Sendero lite on my 25/7 PRC based on the decision I made on the 280 AI and it should have been the other way around!?! Every .257 Wby used a 26” bbl, but if I run it suppressed than it really starts getting way too long!

I should see that rifle in two weeks.

Friday last, we had had very warm overnight temps. When I got to the top of the unit it was 30 degrees. 7500 ft. I was standing outside my truck watching the sun come up and I also heard cows down below me. Been crazy warm since then. Our house is at 3000 feet and it was 60 when I took off with the dogs this morning. The two bulls I saw Friday had not shed any velvet.

One of my nephews inherited two beautiful Witworths, a 300HH and a 375HH. Little turd.
