I am looking for some good loads for my SOCOM16. It's a .308 with a 16" barrel and 1:11 twist. Anybody have any loads they have worked up, or any advice on what may work best with this short barrel?
I am looking for infomation on what methods are typically used to work up accuracy loads for a new rifle. There are obvsouly many different combinations of primers, brass, power, and bullet weights, but I'm at a loss for a system to orginize all these possibiltites into a logical progression...
I'm anxious to hear more about this shoulder shot. I've read that if you hit the bear high between the shoulder blades, it will cut or damage the spinal cord in addition to taking out the front legs. What has your experience been with this type of shot? I'm anxious to hear everything you can...

The 30-06 is a good cartridge; my brother took his bear with one last year. He was using the 180 gr PTs as well. He somehow hit him over the bait, and once again on the run! It was some good shooting in very dense cover, I must say.
