    Range time today

About 5 Year’s ago I inherited some rifles and gear from my wife’s step dad. One rifle is a pre 64 Winchester 270 topped with a 4X Field & Stream Hy-Score that I had not shot until today. I had some reloads from my FIL that were marked as 54 grains of 4350 with a 130 grain Hornady on top. I had...

    How Much Ammo

Could be caliber specific also. I took about 50 rounds with me on my Alberta moose hunt because I was carrying my 300 H&H. Can’t just walk into a store and find ammo on the shelf. If you had a 308, 270 or 30-06 you could at least pick some up in an emergency. Camo

    Oregon 2017 deer camp

Baltz, Good luck and hope you cross paths with a big one. It looks like the weather will cool down and might get some moisture too before season ends. Camo

    Pondering 2017 fall hunting rifles...

I will be supplying rifles for 2 sons and myself on deer and elk this year. For mule deer I will select 3 rifles from 243, 270, 7mm-08 and two 30-06. For Spike bull elk it will probably be the 7mm-08, 30-06 and 300 H&H. Most of these are interchangeable and I will focus on the most accurate...

    Fall hunting plans?

Just found out we drew both deer and elk this year in Oregon. I will outfit myself and two of my sons with rifles and ammo. Now to sort out which rifles to use... I will need to cull down from a 243, 270, 7mm-08, two 30-06's and the 300 H&H. Should be fun. Camo

    Your "most used" rifles???

All but 2 or 3 of my rifles, shotguns and pistols are inherited or were gifts from my parents. These all have a lot of emotional attachment. My dad's old Remington 721 in 300 H&H gets the nod on elk hunts, some deer hunts and on my moose hunt last fall. The m700 in 30-06 that was a birthday gift...

    BEEN WAY TO LONG

Muleman, Sorry to hear about the passing of you mom and life changes for your dad. Good job getting out and clearing the cobwebs a little. Going to the range and focusing on target, slowing your breathing and seeing results can lift your spirits. Camo

.22 centerfires legal for deer? Where?

Erdyalx, I am not sure. I can not find any determination regarding species in the Regs. But, it would be safe to check it out before actually toting a 22 centerfire. Camo

    Oregon winter kill

Yeah, it has caused me to change up my plans for deer this year and probably will alter antelope too. More than likely will not draw antelope so that should be a non issue for me. I am also thinking of chasing elk in the high dessert this year. Camo

.22 centerfires legal for deer? Where?

Guy, Looks like blacktail and mule deer are legal in Oregon with .22 centerfire. Mule deer in the dry half of the state would require drawing a tag if not using a guide. Blacktail could be OTC I think, not sure about the non resident requirements. Hope you find an area that will work. Camo

    Safety on older Savage 110

Update: After going back and working the safety and bolt many more times here is what I have found. After operating the safety dozens of times in succession it has seemed to free up a bit. It now appears that this is a 3 position safety. In the full back safe position the bolt is locked. If I...

    Safety on older Savage 110

My wife inherited her dad's rifle which is a Savage 110. It appears to made in the first year of production as serial number is only 4 digits long. I am not familiar with Savage rifles but the safety on this rifle is different than any I have had. The safety is a 2 position: Safe/Fire. Once...

Multiple rifles in the same caliber?

I have two 30-06 rifles. One was a gift from my parents back in the 70's and the other is my wife's dad's rife who passed away when she was two. Both have sentimental ties. I did sell a rifle in 308 because I had a 7mm-08 that I liked better. They were close enough that they felt kind of like...

Going to British Columbia to chase moose

Might try to fit in some taller rubber boots. Last year was a pretty wet year from what I was told but I started out wearing waterproof leather boots. After stepping in water filled holes twice that were over the top of my boots I switched to my Muck boots. They made it much easier getting...

Going to British Columbia to chase moose

ID8, Last year I drove from Oregon to Alberta for a moose hunt. We drove up through Spokane and Banff/jasper the last week of September. It was a awesome drive and I would recommend it if it works for you. Good luck. Camo
