    "Don't Hunt Bear!"

My sister in law never wanted to eat venison. Ok - she ate duck I killed. One day she tried and from that day on she always asked if I could prepare some when she visits. My girlfriend only eats meat I took. No production for her. And I had former colleagues that are vegetarian who said venison...

    308 Loads

Are Lovex or Reload Swiss powders available in the US? The Lovex D073. series produced very good speed and accuracy in 308 and 30-06 for me and at least over here, they are reasonably priced. The Swiss is more expensive, but S040 for the 308 and S060 for the 6,5 Creedmoor do very well. If you...

    Happy New Year

Happy new year! May it be better than the last... One month of hunting season left. Hope I get my A** off the couch and fill the freezer!

Antlerless Season Missouri and a Daughters first deer

Great story Pat and congratulations to both of your daughters. I must admit I get a bit shaky myself if I can watch game for a long time before the shot presents itself. I usually hunt from a box stand and use a board parallel to the rifle. I push the rifle against the board and can take all of...

    Nope, not going out

We have something around 40ish here. Was below freezing a week ago, but no white Christmas in northern Germany this year.... Wish you a a few happy days with your loved ones!

How many of you are considering a tri-pod to shoot off of for hunting?

They are not quick, agreed. A friend of mine built them for me and I really like them for longer shots where I have the time to set them up.

    9mm 1911

I come from the home of the 9x19 - but a 1911 will always be a 45 ACP for me. Just as I would buy a K98 in 8x57 if there were any for south paws. Still - I am sure it works fine. It's just that there are a few classics I won't change

How many of you are considering a tri-pod to shoot off of for hunting?

I have the Triggersticks, too. With the two point rest. I only use it for shorter distances. I don't like the wobble of the handle. Not steady enough for me if the nerves kick in...

How many of you are considering a tri-pod to shoot off of for hunting?

That's what I use when I think I have enough time. Rock solid, not worse than the bench

    Match bullets for hunting-not recommended

Hm. As expected from a match bullet. Still they almost made it through, dumped a lot of energy and probably damaged some organs with multiple wound channels.

Is there a reason primers aren't shrink wrapped?

Don't primers have a waterproof cover anyway?

    any knowledge

Without a trailing dog, I would prefer an exit wound. 100 y trail with two holes is easier to follow than 50 with just one on entrance. And harder bullets (bonded or monos) will do that more often than soft cup and core...

    6.5-06

A Mauser 98 is a classic. And you will feed it with metric bullets. Kind of... If I weren't a lefty, I would have one for a long time. And 6,5-06 sounds very interesting

    Sporterized Husqvarna M38 6.5x55

Be extra careful with load development. Some of them have problems with the steel.

    Ruger No.1

Naaaahhaaa, those metric things don't work. Must have done something wrong

What do you do when you get a new powder?

I do a Quickload check and work up slowly. Or have the load tested, if it is for someone else

    Handheld Thermo Imaging

Flir is ok. I use a polar for several years now and it helped a lot before and after the shot. I don't know if "before" is legal for you

    Just a buck.

Congratulations! The hit looks fine to me. Granted, the picture is at an angle. But it still looks good

    Effective Efficiency

    Then just ignore it ;-)

    Effective Efficiency

I guess it means that the powder holds a certain amount of stored energy (It is checked with a calorimeter or similar.) That stored energy is transformed into heat and movement (bullet, gas, powder) I guess the ratio shows how much of the energy is transformed into movement of the bullet.
