    .452 - Hornady 250gr XTP and 240gr XTP Mag (part 2)

Gerry, I have killed two deer, a buck and a doe, with each of these bullets. While I did not recover the bullet from any of them, I can make a few assumptions based on my observations at the time of the shot. All shots were the classic behind-the-front-leg shot to the vitals, at distances from...

    .452 - Hornady 250gr XTP and 240gr XTP Mag (part 2)

Aren't .460's able to shoot .454 and .45 Colt ammo? Maybe load up a few warm .45 Colt rounds, like what I've talked about in this thread, and let him shoot some of those thru his pistol. He might find that he enjoys that much better.

    .452 - Hornady 250gr XTP and 240gr XTP Mag (part 2)

I don't think the gummy tips are going to do that much to help his trajectory in a handgun. Would be a nice test to compare accuracy, drop, etc. at distance.

    .452 - Hornady 250gr XTP and 240gr XTP Mag (part 2)

What platform is he shooting the .460 in? Pistol or rifle?

    .452 - Hornady 250gr XTP and 240gr XTP Mag (part 2)

Next up, the 240gr XTP Mag. As noted, this bullet is harder than the standard XTP, and designed for the bigger .45 caliber rounds, such as the .454 Casull, etc. Thus, the recommended MV for this bullet goes all the way up to about 2100 fps, instead of the recommended 1600 fps of the 250 XTP...

    .452 - Hornady 250gr XTP and 240gr XTP Mag (part 1)

So, I finally got around to doing a water jug test on these two bullets. I've used them for a few years in my .45 Colt Henry rifle for deer hunting, and have taken deer with both bullets. The loads are as follows: 250gr XTP - 23.0gr Accurate #9, WLP primer, Starline brass. This load gives...

    260gr PAR 45cal pistol bullets

Also, I have several other varieties of .452 bullets in that ~250gr size. Speer, Nosler, Hornady, etc. Not sure of quantities of the top of my head. If you're interested in a trade, PM me.

    260gr PAR 45cal pistol bullets

If you're just going to plink with them, I'll trade you a new box of 100 Hornady 250gr XTP's for them.

Tried some products and learned some things tonight

Glad you like your Garmin, Brad. It's an excellent tool. Thanks for the powder feedback, I'll pass that info on to my son for his 7 mag. Have you tried Magpro powder?

He posted a video last night, titled "I Am Dead." Obviously pre-recorded, but that is so Paul. RIP, brother.

Anyone loading Hawk 200gr .358 bullets?

These are .358 bullets, which is the nominal diameter for .35 cal rifle. Why would accuracy be shaky?

Henry 243 long ranger load data needed

Just trim to the minimum trim length, per the spec. The ones that are a little too short will stretch after firing.

Henry 243 long ranger load data needed

I will say, I had something similar happen to me, back when I first started loading for .243, as well. I had always used RCBS dies, but this time I had bought a set of Hornady dies. No matter what I did, I could not get those dies adjusted to where they would resize the brass enough to make it...

Anyone loading Hawk 200gr .358 bullets?

I'm thinking of trying either the RT (Round Tip) or FP (Flat Point) in my Henry .360 Buckhammer. I've currently started working up a load with the 200gr Hornady RN, but I've read that the Hawk is a softer bullet. Just wondering if that might be a better option for the 2200-2400 fps deer loads...

Henry 243 long ranger load data needed

FWIW, I think that One Shot stuff is garbage. I tried it a few times, then went back to the RCBS lube and pad.

Henry 243 long ranger load data needed

I would recommend against it. A lever or semi action needs a little more tolerance for smooth feeding and lockup than a bolt gun does. I would full length resize if it were me, just like I do for my AR.
