And just to add to your dilemma: If you are hunting woods where shots are mostly under 100 yards or so, the 45 Colt or 44 mag will get the job done rather nicely. Here's a nice buck I killed with my 45 Colt CCH.
Well, I might be biased. 😉
There is one downside: The weight. It's probably not a gun you want to carry around at port arms all day long. If you're sitting in a blind, it's no problem. But if the weight is an issue, go with the plain blue/walnut or the all-weather model.

Brian
So, can you tell from this chrono data which loads were fired from 360 BH brass, and which were from 30-30 brass?

So, I think I found my hunting load. 37.7gr Accurate 1680 gave me this group at 100 yards. As my scope only goes to 7x, the flyer could easily have been me. Even so, it's just barely over a 1" group, and that will do for deer any day of the week. I have reason to believe that the load will be...
Brad, I usually don't worry too much about what the load data says I should get. I've found that usually that data is from a barrel that is several inches longer than my hunting rifle's barrel, so it's not an apples to apples comparison. But to your point, here's a load I've used successfully in...
I guess I never came back to my own thread after I worked up a load. This is the result I got with BG and the 150gr Hornady SST in my Mannlicher-Schoenhauer 30-06. That's three shots touching, with the fourth as a flyer.
