    Question About New Combo

The 168 E-tips sound like a good fit for you, especially as an archery hunter you know how to wait for a good shot. If you changed to the 180's, I would lean towards a slower powder like H4831, H1000, RL-22 or RL-23 depending on what load data you can get for it. I think IMR 4451 would work...

    350 Legend loads

Bit of an apple to watermelon comparison in Michigan. The 458 SOCOM is bottle necked so it can't be used in the restricted firearm zone in MI - also it is I think pretty much an AR offering with few bolt action rifles (like the 50 Beowolf). 458 SOCOM ammo isn't available in my area, while 450...

    350 Legend loads

No argument Dr. Vette on the 450 bushmaster. I have one friend using the 450 bushmaster, another friend with a couple of 350 legands for him and his kids (been happy but they keep shots close and he doesn't reload) and a neighbor and a friend have 44 mag rifles. The 44's seem to do good work...

    350 Legend loads

MJmichigan, I think it was for production purposes. Smaller diameter bullet, is cheaper to make. The other reason I've heard batted around is that they were trying to limit bad reloading choices - and or make it a factory only round. A better way of writing it might be; they wanted to keep...

    Dillon 550 primer feed question

Appreciate the responses gbflyer. I'll contact customer service once I confirm a functional problem. The chatter is very out of place as the machine has been silky smooth. I'm pretty sure it will have an affect on the operation of the machine - unless the primer feed simply needs a break in...

    Question About New Combo

Welcome. I have no experience with the 300 mag, but IMR 4451 is a good powder in my 30-06 and 280. 4451 might be a little fast for the 300 mag and it might be great like peenut butter and jelly. Hodgedon has data for 180 gr E-tips and 4451. Think it is 60.2 gr start and 65.5 gr max, I would...

    Dillon 550 primer feed question

Thank you gbflyer, but no change. Had greased the op-rod hole, and silicon sprayed the slide plate when installing the primer feed. Added dry lubricant to the the primer slide tonight. Any other places that should be lubed?

    Dillon 550 primer feed question

Hi guys, As I've waded into pistol loading, I recently purchased the automatic primer feed system for my roughly 18 year old Dillon 550B. I've not run any primers through the primer system - so this more of a please educate me request rather than a specific cry for help... Dillon customer...

Winchester Model 70 to free float or not, that it’s the Ques

I would be pretty happy with the 180 AB loads, especially if they repeat. And honestly for a lot of the hunting I do, I would hunt with a number of those loads. A more rigid stock would help in the lead-sled as the additional support helped the groupings, but it might not make a huge...

    Getting into pistol catridges

Thanks 358 WCF. The Western / Accurate buy should be pretty turn-key, but anything can cause disruptions these days. Different company policies on Covid among needing to update safety and hazard documents with the shipping companies, etc. could be fairly significant. The Hornady 44 special...

Winchester Model 70 to free float or not, that it’s the Ques

Let us know how you do and if the bags or deep cleaning made a difference. I'm not familiar with the 4-10 Zeiss Conquests, but your post sounds like it is not adjustable for parallax. I would still play with the scope a little and re-focus the eyepiece. I've found that sometimes when I'm...

Winchester Model 70 to free float or not, that it’s the Ques

That is interesting. Do you have your "parallax" set correctly? Yes, I know a lot of the Conquests don't have parallax adjustments, but I think the 4.5-14 versions do have a side adjustment knob. When parallax is off for me I usually have horizontal dispersion rather than vertical dispersion...

    Getting into pistol catridges

Thanks 358 WCF. Lead isn't an issue in the can - comes apart for easy cleaning and baffles are 17-4 steel. Have shot 20 or so rounds of cast 44 special / mag through it without issue along with very dirty 22LR. The 44 specials actually sound quieter suppressed than suppressed supersonic 22LR...

    Getting into pistol catridges

I appreciate the info and will keep an eye out for it. Do you recall what cartridges that occurred with? I'm thinking case capacity would certainly come into play with that dynamic. I haven't picked up on any small pistol primers yet, due to the insanity of the market. If you were...

Winchester Model 70 to free float or not, that it’s the Ques

PJGunner is spot-on and old aluminum or carbon arrows are great for adding rigidity. Carbon arrows can be a pain to cut without damaging the fibers and the dust is hazardous; but it shouldn't matter in this application. Also, if you can add aluminum pillars that can help as well.

    Getting into pistol catridges

Thank you for the confirmation! Normally I would be working with a good friend of mine, but he's been dealing with a number of major health issues the last couple of years and with Covid... I'll just write that I've not been able to shoot with him this year and I've had very limited...

    Getting into pistol catridges

HS-6 is what I have available - was in store and as a mid range powder will "work" for some loads in 9mm, 40 S&W, 45 ACP and 44 special / mag. At least my Hornady and Hodgdon resources list a fairly large number of HS-6 loads for those cartridges. Speer might as well - I don't have the book in...

Winchester Model 70 to free float or not, that it’s the Ques

#2's synthetic stock might just be too flimsy. I've seen flimsy Tupperware stocks and I've seen heavy duty plastic stocks and I've seen rigid fiberglass stocks. Would suggest free floating the barrel as you already did. If it doesn't work then I would look at getting a stiffer stock. Like...

    Getting into pistol catridges

Howdy, I'm finally getting into reloading pistol cartridges this winter. I'm planning on starting with a moderate 44 mag load to begin with - groundhog / low recoil child load for use in a 20" suppressed single shot rifle. I'm looking to start loading on my RCBS Rock-Chucker, but I've had...
