I have been in and out of Contenders since 2001. Currently have a threaded MGM barrel in 300 Blackout 16 inch I shoot suppressed for suburban deer on my farm. 220 gr Outlaw State bullets, 1050 fps, kills like a hammer at archery ranges. 125 gr Nosler bts supersonic when over 50 yds. Nice...
I had an encore 308 win barrel made by MGM that is 10.5 inches. 150 grain Nos BT's loaded up with 44 grains of varget with my suppressor screwed on, its not much louder that a 22 hornet. I like the short barrel so much, I have ponied up the $200 to do a legal SBR. Its gonna be way more fun...
I want to build a Remington 700 in .308 Winchester for shooting subsonic heavy rounds. I need a short action to start with. I plan on Shilen making a 16.5 inch threaded barrel in 1 in 7 twist. I would be more than happy with an old beater Remington 700 used gun and start there.
30 or 40 deer dead shooting 125 ballistic tips and 18.5 grs of H110 over the past 13 years starting with a SSK built Contender barrel and still using my 300 Whisper dies to load the same load to shoot out my Noveske AR in 300 Blackout, I tried the 150's early on and killed two deer with it but...
I have been loading 18.5 grn H110 with 125 Nos BT's for 13 yrs in a 300 Whisper SSK made Thompson Center Encore single shot and now use the same load for a 300 Blackout in my Noveske AR. Deer killer that gives me 2200 fps out of 16 inch barrel. Now,,, if I could only find Nos 125 BT's anywhere...
I use N110 for loading 300 Blackout Subsonic in my Noveske AR. Loading Subsonic can be tricky to get an AR to cycle correctly. VV N110 does the trick for me. 8.9 gr out a 16 inch barrel with a suppressor.
I use viht N110 ,,, 8.9 grains to puch fat 220 gr .308 bullets real slow, around 1050 fps out my 16" 300 blackout with suppressor hanging off the end. Quiet as a gnat's fart and an absolute hammer on deer under 100 yds. My absolute favorite suburban whitetail load.
Does anybody shoot reduced loads using trailboss and shoot at 1500 or less fps? I load a 30 caliber, (300 Blackout) subsonic using 220 grain bullets. Kills deer like a hammer with almost zero recoil. For sure the old original 45-70's using black powder were not brutal to shoot.
As stated, depends on your use. I love my Leupold 1.5 x 5 with post reticle for close work on deer and 4 x 12 for longer ranges. What I hate is big bulky high power scopes that aren't needed for what I do 99% of the time. Sold both my 6 x 18 power scopes for that reason. I live in VA where a...
I bought some RCBS Carbide dies last Monday for my S&W 38 Spl. Even though I have been reloading 40 years, this was my first attempt with a straight walled cartridge. I read the instructions that came with the dies about proper seating and crimping in the last step of loading. I followed...
I am like every other consumer in a freely operating market place. I vote with my wallet. If I like it, I buy it. Someone doesn't like Gunbroker, simple solution is to stay away and buy your guns elsewhere.
I might have found the .308 load I was looking for.
Winchester Brass, (its what I already had sized and primed)
CCI BR-2 primers
10 gr Trail Boss
Sierra 30/30 170 gr bullet
COL = 2.530
Velocity 5 shot average 1049 fps.
Extreme spread was 14 FPS.
No Keyholing at 25 yards.
Almost zero recoil...
I have been reloading subsonic for 12 years and always with single shot contenders and encores. So far no stuck bullets but if I dont hear a bullet strike the target, ( or deer ). I look down the barrel to make sure a bullet is not stuck in there. Kraky1 is correct that cast are more slippery...
I have been shooting 300 whispers for 12 years and the new 300 blackout for a year. The cases are so close they are basically the same. I have been loading subsonic for the whisper/300 Blackout forever and having a ball shooting supressed subsonic rounds. I bought a 16 inch barrell .308...
For a gun or category that has pages of listings, most with better than full retail asking price, use the advanced search feature located upper right. When the advanced search screen comes up, down near the bottom there is a drop down list where you can click on "items with the most bids". I...
I have an old ruger no. 1 rsi in 7x57. Finally shot 2 boxes of rem ammo and loaded 43 gr of IMR in Remington Brass, fed LR match primer, and 150 gr nos PT's. The reloads shot great. No clue on the history of the rifle as I bought it on Gunbroker but the trigger is good and it shoots good with...
Every gun is different. My encore loves powerbelts and blackhorn powder. I readily admit my groups get smaller with the shockwaves but man what a pain to reload quickly for a follow up shot for the dumb early season does that scamper 40 yards and look back at their dead buddy.
I have shot 2-5 deer a year in VA with buckshot while running deer with dogs. Goochland County is a no slugs or rifle county. Buckshot is good for deer killing, just keep it under 40 yards. I have a benelli SBE 3 1/2 12 gauge but use only 3 inch shells 00 buck. Cheaper and more than enough to...
Blackhorn doesn't need swapping between shots to maintain ease of loading. Clean up is done with any petroleum based cleaner like Hoppes 9. All the other blackpowders and substitutes like pyrodex and triple 7 are cleaned up with warm water, soapy water does a great job. , just not blackhorn...
