I am shooting 43.0 grs RL 16 with a 140 gr Nosler RDF in a Savage BA Stealth 10 in 6.5 CM. I hold half MOA out to 1000 yards, 2750 fps at the muzzle. my seating depth is 2.740" which is .130" jump. Primers are BR2.
Another very popular load for long range shooters is 41.5 grs H4350 with a 140...
I'm shooting the 77 gr NCC in my 20" AR, getting 1" 5 shot groups at 100 yards loading to 2.260" OAL which is max mag length. I am loading 22.7 grs AA 2460 and getting 2700 fps. I have not tested it on paper past 100 yards but I am easily ringing steel at 500 yards.
I know this is not what you are asking, but I run 67.0 gr VVN160 in my 7 Wea Mag with a 160 gr Accubond at 3100 fps. Last week I shot this load out to 600 yds and had 3 consecutive 5" 3 shot group at that distance. I had earlier tried RL 25 with a 162 gr SST and got into trouble before I hit...
I shoot the 77 gr NCC in a 20" AR 1 in 7 twist. OAL is 2.260". Load is 22.7 grs AA2460 at 2700 fps. I am using this powder as it was the old suitable powder I could find during the powder shortage and I like it pretty good. I am averaging 1 MOA with this combo and I can ring steel targets every...
as long as they weigh the same the headstamp will not matter. I find most 223 brass weighs 92-96 grains but some PMC will weigh 102-104 grains. I tend to sort them out and load them as a separate batch.
Dr Mike,
can you explain why the TTSX must be loaded "lighter" than the original X? I thought the contact bands were to reduce bore contact and friction?
Jimbeaux
Dr Mike,
as always you are on the ball. I would think that the TTSX with its "bands" might develop a little less pressure with powder charge due to less contact area than the original "x" bullets referenced.
Thanks
Jimbeaux
Would one of our erstwhile members please run a QL for 35 Whelen, Hornady cases, 180 gr Barnes TTSX, cci 200, IMR 4064, 24" barrel?
Also, does anyone have experience with the 180 gr TTSX for deer in 35 Whelen and how did it perform?
TIA
Jimbeaux
I load for a couple of close friends. But they must loan me their rifle so I can work up the loads, Not really interested in doing it for "just anybody".
Dr Vette,
I have a good supply of RL 25 so did not consider RL 26, but I would think it work work about the same. The Weatherby Factory 160 AB's shot about 1" in my rifle and I have been able to slightly better that with my handloads. MY VVN160, 67.0 gr, 3100 fps load shoots about 3/4 inch...
Scotty,
I just finished firing my test loads and was again disappointed with the ABLR's. Again I was trying to duplicate loads listed in the Nosler manual as "most accurate" and shooting them thru a Weatherby 7mm Wea Mag Accumark. Here is what I shot:
1 - 76.0 gr Retumbo, 150 gr ABLR, 3.360"...
Scotty,
rifle has a Weatherby chamber. It was a Mark V originally that I sent back to Weatherby for a conversion to Accumark after the accuracy of my original barrel fell off to below what I was happy with. I went ahead and loaded the 168 gr ABLR with 74 and 76 gr Retumbo and will report back...
Scotty,
I have been loading 160 gr Accubonds with VVN 160 getting about 3/4 in groups and 3100 fps. I primarily hunt white tailed deer and have been satisfied with this load, able to ring steel targets out to 600 yds with relative ease. Just on a whim , since I had ordered some 150 gr and 168...
