I know no one really cares...but not a fan. I've used a Mod fwt and a Ruger UltraLight, meh. Now, I have always admired and loved shooting the M60 Pig, but...just can't get excited about any short action round, even the old 358 Winchester! I tried it awhile back, one last time. I bought a new CA...
I had good results with the 165 SBT GK on SE Texas deer and hogs. A bit tougher than the 150 Clkts. I like the 165 early barnes X and TSX, but the 168 TTSX is a dream come true, ha. I like to use the old heavy round nose c&c, just for grins. A friend used the 180 round nose in his 30-06 and it...
I prefer the Sierra 150 Pro Hunter for deer out of the old warhorse. The 150 SBT and Speer 150 BT are a bit soft for my use. I find the Pro Hunters to be pretty tough and cheap enough to shoot alot. As a do it al, I have almost always loaded the Barnes 165x, then later the 168 TTSX over H4350. I...
Well, sold the Kimber w/o firing a shot! Darn medical bills, darn money flow, ha! That was awhile back. Just this week I put a reasonable priced Mod 700 ADL/270 on Layaway (10 mos!) ha And today I put a really nice, 1978 Mod 700 Classic/'06 on a short Layaway! Oh yeah! Along with my quest of the...
Well now...still waiting on my RPM. "Maybe" by end of this week. In the meantime, I saw an older 700 ADL wood stocked .270 in a local Pawn Shop, with a Vortex Crossfire ( I don't care for the Crossfires on a centerfire) all for $495. Yep, ol .270, #16, is on Layaway! ha I am all set up with...
Bummer, deal fell through. Sending the Gretan FPA back for credit. Sorry guys, too many irons in the fire before I went on a 2 week Vacation. First one in 12 years...yeah, it was time, ha.
"In the meantime..." I found another "deal" in a pawn shop! A Remington 700 SPS , 24" bbl in a nice synthetic stock (no idea whose, it has the "tacky" feel but nice and slim)...270 Win #16 ! ha After giving it a good once over, I put it on Layaway. Cost? $489.00! It has one of those sorry...
I dropped by my Smith to have a look see at the fluted Douglas, looks great! It is "almost" the same as the Wby std 338-06 bbl. He still has to chamber/fit/finish it. I also double checked on the Socom Blue Cerakote color, I liked it alot. Maybe...just maybe I will have by end of next week...
Hey Bruce, my first "Wildcat" was the 257 Roberts Ackley Improved, Mod 700 Classic, 24" barrel. In 1982 I traded a nice 6" Colt Python 357 for it at a redneck/racist gun store in Vidor, Texas. I was checking a Drilling Rig nearby. I shot it awhile in Roberts/100gr Speer BT. I hunted with it but...
I really like R16, supposed to be more stable than R17. I have tested R17 down to 20 deg and it was consistent in the 300 WSM/168 TTSX. I tested it in another 270/130 too, same same. That's the "best" way to determine if they are indeed stable. Test your favorite load around freezing or colder...
Thanks guys. I know I'm "Preaching to the choir", but I just had to share! When it comes to reloads, for sure, the 7mm RM walks off and leaves it, but it is still heck for stout! I have been tempted to get anything from the 240, 25-06, 257 wby, just to realize I can get the similar speeds with...
In my 24" Kimber 84L I worked up that 150 Partition to 3032! I was still under the Max QL Data with N560 too. I looked at the Specs of many factory 150 grain 7mm loads. Almost all were right at the same speed, from 2950 to 3030! Sheboygin! I'm impressed and now torn between using it or my new...
First time I saw how tough the Pro Hunters were was back in late 90's. Federal factory loads, 300WM, 150PH. Shot 4 deer in Llano Tx. Made a 50 cent pc exit, with alot of lung tissue syphoned out, hanging. Wow! ha I too thought they would be a "bomb", and stay inside those little Hill country...
My Kimber 84L 270 shoots anything so very well. It loves the 110 TTSX and the 110 Hammer, plus the heavies on the other end! From my observations of the Barnes, I think the Sierra 120 Pro Hunter "should" be better on deer/antelope. I have shot a wad of Hammers in several calibers but never...
I'm supposed to have my 338 RPM all done by end of this month. This includes Cerakoting it too, Hey, why not? I had a minor surgery, and I won't even be released to even go to the rifle range until the middle of September.
