That's a trend over at Rokslide to shoot them with tiny rounds. Some are sure emotionally invested in it over there for some reason. Sure it can work but why is my question?
I have taken moose with:
6.8 Western 170 gr Ballistic Tip
30-06 180 gr G.S(X2), 180 GR Fail Safe, 220 gr Silvertip
308 Norma Mag 180 gr Mag Tip (X2)
35 Whelen 225 gr Accubond (X2), 225 gr Ballistic Tip, 225 gr TSX
Might be missing some. Tried other bullets too in the above cartridges but...
It's pretty rare to just knock one down with a single shot no matter what you use. I would like anything from a 270 or 7mm-08 on up personally but the smaller 6.5's will be fine too. 7mm RM and 30-06 are perfect in my mind.
Maybe we can find one of those for you! You might be able to find a custom gun for a good price too.
If you do get a new barrel a fast twist would be worth considering. A 257 Roberts has more case capacity than the 25 Creedmoor and would give you lots of options. More high B.C. bullets are...
You had better be careful DrMike the next time you open your freezer. You don't want those moose to jump out since you didn't use the "300 PRC caliber" ;) All the other rounds that we have used in the past are now obsolete. Better let @Blkram know too so they don't jump out of his freezer either.
According to old Jim here whatever Hornady is paying him for is best.
Seriously though what are your choices? Almost anything within reason will work fine. I'll chime in later with what I think.

It's in this thread.
I think it's a good move for them to offer good ammo for a good price. I look forward to them offering the Solid base again for handloading.
Such a shame since they offer so much otherwise. Failure to stay zeroed is why I moved away from them. Come on Leupold get your stuff together and fix the issues you know are there.
I would expect that they will eventually. Offering more affordable factory ammo is a good move especially since their other products are pretty expensive. I have some 150 gr 277 Solid base bullets and I hope they offer them again for us who handload.
