    primer pocket

Dirt from decapping a case on a progressive reloading press can leave a flake of carbon on top of the primer seating pin and will dent the primers when you seat a primer in the case. I see it all the time when loading pistol ammo on my Dillon 450 progressive press. I clean my press and the...

Amen Brother. Fire and water have no mercy on anyone or anything. Plus Fire is a live breathing ravenous eater and destroys everything.

    What was I thinking?

Any time Dan. I like to went crazy trying to figure out why a new rifle wouldn't shoot consistently when I got my Hawkeye. Burnt a lot of powder and primers trying to figure it out.

    RL 26 Discontinued?????

Dang there goes my Bullseye powder load for my .45acp out the window. Between Israel and Ukraine, they are eating up all the powder production and primers for the reloading consumer market.

    What was I thinking?

If your going to hunt it I would take the wood stock off of it to preserve it should you want to sell it later on and find a Precision carbon fiber stock with a full metal bedding block in it like the Bell&Carlson Medalist and skim bed the action to it. You can thank me later when you find it...

    Prayers needed.

My prayers are with you Dale and your friends. Fighting forest fires is dangerous and scary. I had a squad of men fighting a fire in southern Virginia at Fort AP Hill back in the 70's. The wind shifted on us and we were trapped. Had to dig in and bury ourselves since it was going to overrun us...

    Bullet shelf

Well buddy I feel for you, I almost had the same thing happen to me only it was a recycled kitchen cabinet I had hung over my reloading bench. The bottom framework couldn't hold the weight and pulled apart while I was sitting at the bench. I was lucky and caught it in time to get most of the...

    local gun shop closing

Dang I didn't look at the date. I miss reading about the Girls exploits. They had a lot of good knowledge to share. Dang shame a bunch of idiots had to run them off.

    local gun shop closing

Yeah Change is not always a good thing and as far as dating myself I can remember when you could walk down the street in my local town and no one even turned their head and looked at you including the police. Gun racks in pickups were common also. I miss quite a few of my old haunts where I...

44 Rem Mag Mid Range Loads

When I was shoot a .44 Mag I would look at the .44Spl loads and select one of the milder loads and give a few a try then I would teak it to my preference. Had an original Ruger flat top that thought it was a sniper rifle but sold it to buy a compound bow, boy was that a dumb move and one I...

    Thompson Center coming back

I owned one of the .50 cal Hawken kits and still have a contender with several barrels. The Contender is a great shooting handgun and have killed numerous heads of game with it. The Hawken barrel needed to be refreshed to make it accurate once done it would littery drive tacks.

    Accuracy Diff with primers.

Fotis CFE223 is what I was loading in my 35Ackley Imp and the WW primers worked fantastic. CFE223 is a ball powder and hard to ignite and get uniform pressures, I don't think they are as hot as a magnum primer but they do make a difference with CFE223.

    Accuracy Diff with primers.

Yep when I was working up loads for my 35 Whelen Ackley Improved a change to Winchester primers marked for standard or magnum cartridges made a big difference in accuracy. Dewy's work with tuning the quick load data for my loads showed the difference and on range targets the performance was...

    Shooting Bench

Looks Great Jim. Hope you treated the bottom of the reel you buried in the ground. The wood they are made from tends to rot easy when buried. A suggestion would be to set it on some railroad cross ties or 6X6 pressure treated post.

    Dusting off the Dillon 550B

Gee there are so many options for powders in the .45acp. It depends on what you're going to do with it and what bullet weight and type you plan load. Across the board you have Winchester WST which works well with most bullet weights and designs plus it is readily available, and the price isn't...

    Quick Load .45acp

Yeah if you look at the 2 side by side the only difference is the polished high luster finish and the price.

    Quick Load .45acp

Thanks for your help. The Zero 185 JHP is also very similar to the Nosler 185gr JHP the AMU uses and supplied by Alanta arms ammunition. that seems to be a little hot for my liking but the load shots good out of my pistol at 50yds, 1-1/2" 10 shot groups off a rest.

    Quick Load .45acp

My chronograph went south and was wondering if I could get a quick load for .45acp using Clays powder and Federal primers. I 'm planning on going to the National Pistol matches at Camp Perry Ohio next week and would like to see if my velocity's are with end range . Load is 4.2grs of Clays with a...
