    Townsend Whelen’s Best Cartridges List

Though I don't have all the calibers on the list I do have a few, Nd the 30-06 is my go to rifle. The 35 Whelen Ackely Imp would be my second choice since it can do everything the 30-06 can and a little more. The 338WM is a toss up since there is so many factory loads for it like the 30-06. My...

    Elk Load for 300 WSM

Good looking groups Dan. I would say you are good to go for the season. Never had or shot a 300WSM but do have a 300WM and have found that you can load it up or down and still have a very accurate and humane killing cartridge. Some calibers just don't open up well at lower velocities but you can...

    Pigs down

Looking good my friend and thanks for spiring my appetite. I almost licked the computer screen.o_O How does the 338RPM compare to a 338WM ? I would have liked to have been with you and tried out the 35Whelen AI on a few.

    Noem killing her dog...

With the mass breeding and cross breeding of the American bull terrier I wouldn't own one unless I knew all the history on the dog as there seems to be a lot of that breed out there that has been abused and trained for different uses that can't be corrected or changed. My daughter has 3 she has...

    Noem killing her dog...

Most definitely a bad call. It seems like we had the same bad experience Don. Mom had a dog she called socks and was one of the meanest dogs I ever met. She would bite you after you stopped petting her. I'll probably carry the scares from one of her bites to my grave. I sat down beside Mom on...

Back at it again with the 22 hornet!

It's amazing what a different primer will do for accuracy. I found the same thing for my 35 Whelen AI. I have a batch of old Winchester primers that is all I use for it and only for hunting loads.

    New job

Good luck with your new job. But I would see a orthopedic surgeon and get some physical therapy plus an MRI done so you don't make the injury any worse. I've had my shoulder scoped and it isn't as bad as it may seem. I also had a Knee scoped just several months before I went Elk hunting in...

A little more love for the 300 HH

Hmm Silver tips brings back old memories. Dad always carried a few factory loads with 150gr Silver tips for his 30-06 a pre WW II M70 . His back up was 180gr Corloks which he seldom had to use since the Silver Tips would drop a deer right there. He always shot factory ammo and never got into...

A little more love for the 300 HH

Did a little research for you and found some loads you might like but I would start low and work up. The trick will be finding the bullets used to develop the loads. WW cases were used for all loads along with CCI 250 primers. 180gr Speer Magnum bullet, IMR4831 70grs vel 3043fps 3/4" group...

    And yet another 45 Super

The only 45 Super I have seen was based on a 1911 slide and frame and didn't have a break. the owner used it for making Major to shoot steel targets which I thought was over kill since you could use a standard .45 ACP to get the job done. A .45 Super for handgun hunting could be very...

Back at it again with the 22 hornet!

Dang that little rifle will shoot. Great job Fotis getting it dialed in. I don't guess there's a chance now that I can borrow it? Did you have to do anything to the bedding ?
