Years ago I used this bullet from a .22-250 to kill a nice 3x4 mule deer buck, the bullet was not recovered. A 200ish yard shot in the ribs behind the shoulder dropped him in his tracks.
My current .22-250, a Ruger M77 Hawkeye loves this bullet on top of 35 grains of Varget. According to the...
I have never fired a .375 Ruger but have shot a couple of .375 H&H rifles over the years. I owned a push-feed Model 70 .375 that was quite accurate and though the recoil was stiffer than I like, it wasn’t impossible to shoot well. Sadly I traded it off a few years back.
Just picked up a .35...
Maybe if you called it a .300 Savage Improved or a .30-06 Short, it would sound more exciting!! 😂
I have been thinning the herd too, but I bought this .308 and a .35 Whelen this year. 🙄 Sorry, not sorry!
Not only are they both nice rifles, but in the case of the 788, its the nicest 788 I have...
Sorry for your loss Don. The world could use more people like Bob in it for sure. I used to know several folks in Condon and Fossil. I went to school from 4th grade through 12th grade in Spray.
The .30-06 has always been my favorite cartridge but there are no flies on the .308! It is accurate, efficient, hard hitting and as ubiquitous as bad decisions on Saturday night. It’s little wonder that it has been a top 10 seller nearly from inception.
I don’t believe so. There are two reasons why. Firstly I think all the other 788’s I’ve seen had birch stocks, this one is walnut. The other is, that it has a shadowline cheekpiece. No sir, I believe it to be aftermarket. And very well done at that.
So loaded up to go to the range this morning, when I got there I saw that everything past the 75 yard board was burnt up in the fire. So I snapped some pictures, then packed up and left. At least you get to see the rifle.
This is my 3rd .308. I owned a push-feed M70 that I ended up trading, a Savage 99E that I still have but rarely use, and now this 788. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a .308, its a great cartridge. I just happen to prefer the .30-06!
That said, this Remington 788 checks a lot of boxes...
So even though lately I have been downsizing, I found the nicest Remington 788 I have ever seen on the fire about a month back. It was in excellent shape, came with 3 mags and was chambered in .308!!
I sent a check, my FFL called when it arrived. I now own another .308!
I roughly sighted it in...
What a mess! I have taken to storing anything I keep en masse in either .30 cal or .50 cal cans on the floor.
I always thought a roll away tool chest would be the cat’s keister for such things.
Wow, I am blown away by the love and support in this thread. This is the first time I have logged on to Nosler forum in nearly two weeks.
Your prayers and mine were answered. Although the Rail Ridge fire is still largely undercontained, we had some good rains come in yesterday and today...
Glad to have this forum’s advice. The whole atmosphere here is more that of extended family and friends sitting around at deer camp passing on their stories and experiences.
Guy Miner is and always has been a huge part of that for me. I’ve only been on here for thirteen years.
The only 6.5 I own is a .264 Win Mag. Its a great load, lots of great bullets available.
I think the 6.5 RPM would be about like the old 6.5-06 AI wildcat.
