CCI #41 primer vs Winchester #41 primer

I should have said a couple other things. 1) welcome to reloading. 2) We work our loads up from starting because, there is lot to lot variability in powder. Good argument for buying 4 and 8 # jugs when you find a powder you like. Ie 4350, 4831, Benchmark, STABall6.5, RL26, W760 etc. I’d buy an...

CCI #41 primer vs Winchester #41 primer

As long as you work your loads up, no problem substituting comparable primers. Should be fine. Some rifles really like one particular primer sometimes. You can see it in groups or on a chrono with super low SD. (Single digit FPS) Mv.

    Wild first shots

Thank you all for the excellent suggestions. He shoots is 30-378 at 300 yards in about 2”. Annoys him I’m just under an inch. I don’t think the 340wby intimidates him. He was annoyed being out grouped on his own rifle… trigger time is the solution. Apologies for not getting the model right...

    Wild first shots

Talking with a friend about a finnwolf 340wby. Nice feeling rifle/trigger, but first shot is high left by like 18” at 50 yards. 18” makes it crazy because if we sight for cold barrel first shot, follow up shots are so off, it’s not usable. And if we sight for the group, the first shot is a...

    .350 Legend Experience

As a 35 is has respectable bore and knock down. From what I’ve read, it takes a 355 bullet, not a 358. And it memory servers me, 9mm is 355. Hornady makes an FTX and I think an interlock in 355. The AR is a fun platform to own and shoot. Might be an acceptable round if you’re not hung up on...

    At a loss for words...........

I was wondering if it belonged to someone famous… that gun will be 150 years old before it fetches that price again!

Who here has competed with firearms?

Haha. In general I shun gun formal competitions. Bowling was stressful… took the fun out of bowling… didn’t want to take the fun out of shooting.. However, shotguns are another matter. Sporting clays is my favorite and 5 stand. Trap or skeet are fine. Our club in Freeland a michigan...

Moose Attack on training dogsled team

Cheyenne, I’m definitely a fan of yours! Your experience in the wilderness is incredibly valuable and reassuring or corrective for those of us down south that only occasionally visit the wilds! You’re also stroking my urge to buy yet another gun (358 win maybe a BLR or Sav 99) these last...

Moose Attack on training dogsled team

Just clarifying, a 380 auto colt pistol is basically a 9mm short, many 380autos are often sporting less and 100gn bullets. I would not carry a 380 auto for personal defense as heavy leather jackets and sweaters have stopped them. Typically the only have 5-7 rounds in them and a barrel that’s...

    Canadians Have Had Enough

Ambassador Bridge closed now(Detroit-Windsor). Auto companies are evaluating their supply chains as there are many components flowing to assembly plants in Ontario and USA through that border crossing. There are two alternate routes not blocked yet. Tunnel under Detroit river, and Blue water...

Moose Attack on training dogsled team

Moose attacked on the trail. Musher had an unspecified smaller caliber, emptied it and did not stop the moose. Several dogs were killed and several more injured. She had a bar on her cell phone and an hour later help arrived with a more appropriate caliber...

    Lever options.

Haha.. yah. I like magnum at the end because my shoulders can take it… still, 358win in a lever is on my list of great rifle to own. Thank you!

30 cal bullet for Brown Bear

Son took a black back in Sept in Canada with the 220 Sierra prohunter…3” entrance, 8” exit. Bear was probably dead before it hit the ground. Took a fair amount of heart and lungs with it. It was loaded stoutly in a 300WSM. I’d have to look at notes, but believe it was around 2700fps. For sure...

    QL request for 45/70 Govt.

I got out with starting loads on RL7, H4198, and IMR4198. Of the three H4198 was closest. I managed to get a roaring sinus infection and I’ve been laying low low. Antibiotics helping. Should be back to the load dev next week.

    Prvi Brass??

I used it for Savage 303. It seemed fine. No issues with quality and the 303 shot great with it. Best IMO is more like Norma, Lapua.

    QL request for 45/70 Govt.

Hi Dr. Mike, Question. On that quickload report for all reasonable powders.... i didn't see some i would have guessed would be there, and quite a few I wouldn't have expected. Do you think it's because of the 40000Cup? Examples of what i would have expected. Exterminator, H4198, IMR4198...
