Stain will mute a lot of the character, unless you do a light coat and light sand so it dies the deep pores. Multiple coats of tru oil or ting oil will do you good-
Forgot to say thanks Bret- thanks!
It's a homebrew- bptactical in Denver did the threading and timing of the brake.
I'm bummed Canada is so restricted Dr. I'm not too sure which way this election will go.... I plan to get that thunderbeast sooner than later.
I just took it out this morning and was blown away in more ways than one. I went for velocities since it was 15-20mph winds. With the test loads I did in QL, it did pretty good- Velocities were off from the estimate, but 1" at 100 is a good place to start. I need to measure the barrel to see...
The more I shoot the .260 rem with 129's the more I think I'm experiencing the same issues listed above. Bummer since I just bought two boxes from midwayusa while on a clearance sale. I'm going to try some 140gr accubonds next.
Posted this for the creedmoor, but it's essentially the same for .260's
Got tired of bouncing from site to site plugging in bullet data so I made my own calculator based off the equations found on accurate shooter and the such.
Neck tension has a significant influence on the burn rate in QL. I can see a good 30+ fps swing between using a mandrel and the ball expander on the rcbs dies. I haven't found the ratio yet as I do not measure the tension, but I'd say its .001-.002 difference in tension. Tried this on 22-250...
My pleasure.
I have savage mod 10 hunter max-1 24" barrel and have chrono'ed the 142's above with R17 just kissing that 2800 fps- Though I can't remember what model or length you have. I love that R17, but get frustrated with its sensitivity.
Those calcs I have are from accurate shooter and...
142 on top and 129 on bottom. I think they stabilize pretty well if 1.5 is the magic targeted number....
I don't have any Nosler brass or else I'd help you with QL.
Midwayusa has a sweet deal on the 129's right now...
Have you measured bullet run out? I didn't have a gauge, and rolled a few on a plate of glass and was pretty surprised at how much run out there was, even with the seat twist seat method. I burned nearly 100 ablr's chasing groups, diagnosing possible scope problems, fixing stock issues. I'm...
Well shoot. A few weeks ago I shot the rest of my old .260 loads and loaded a few to get chrono data and start load development. Wasn't impressed with R17 sensitivity so I changed to H4350. I was on a node, but the groups didn't say so. Went back to the house and loaded some more and checked...
What was the temp difference between the first group and 37* outing? 4350 is pretty stable compared to other powders, but if the temp difference is greater than than the obt range, it could just be cold weather.
Variation can be from neck tension too. I get a large swing from brass sized...
This is my cleaning supply cabinet and cleaning bench that folds down when not in use. I'll take better pics when the truck isn't restricting the angle.
If you can, make a plate system on your bench in the garage and secure the presses, vises, prep centers using plates. When not in use, keep the presses and equipment sealed up and stored somewhere?
