Well.......After hunting from ladder tree stands for 30+ years this same thing happened to me just a week ago. I've been kicking myself in the tail since it happened AND it was a really nice buck, a lot nicer than the one I got later that day. The good thing here is SAFETY FIRST!!I can always...
Great post and write up Scotty. Congrats on getting it done. The tent collapse is funny, happened at our camp one year 10-miles in wilderness. I agree it sure makes good memories.
Blessings,
Don
No pics taken on this deer to share. I'm still out there hunting so maybe later. But the story on this one is......... 70 yard shot with 35 Whelen, 225 Partition, double lung shot, exit broke the far side due to angle from tree stand. Shot was taken on top of the ridge, he ran over the ridge and...
Thanks for the replies. I forgot about the 200 AB. Has anyone here got some real experience taking deer with it, can share results etc. Your load data with it too?
Truck Driver,
Did I see someone on here getting 2800+ fps with the 200 AB?
Thanks
Don
Is anyone here using the Hornady 200 grain bullets in their 35 Whelen for Deer? Curious about the load and results. It would be nice for Nosler to consider a 200 grainer in the Partition  8)
Thanks,
Don
Thanks for sharing your story. Our family deer camp was very similar to yours. The farting and snoring got REAL at our camp too! Same old deer stories re-told of years past never got old. Laughed till we cried at a lot of them. How I miss that old camp. Mom and Dad sold it long ago.
Don
Dr Mike,
I was raised that ANY Deer you get is a trophy regardless of it's size, period. We celebrated any success in our family deer camp no matter what.
Harvesting a doe is a big deal to me and I take great pride in placing the one shot kill, best can! My family loves venison.
There are a...
My season starts tomorrow. 8) I haven't seen the quality buck on my cams, as in years past, this year. Also noticed there are not any acorns this year either for some reason. We normally have a bumper crop in our area. The rut seems to be running late here as well. Just starting to see scrapes...
35 Whelen,
That's a good load you have there. I see it put the smack down on that nice buck and at 285 yards, it's a winner!! I may give that powder a try this spring when I get back to the range.
Don
Thanks for the replies. I'm letting it as is for now till the hunt season is over. It shoots ok for now but I'm not satisfied with it. Will re-torque in the off season.
Don
I've read mixed opinions on this subject, not sure what to believe. Can anyone here give me the straight on this? My gun is a 30-06 Rem 700 factory wood stock, bedded and floated with pillars.
Thanks
Don
Thanks Guy,
This load has been excellent in the past for me. I knew it would work out the last range trip. I just need to be careful with shot placement as is the case with anything we use out there.
This load is going like 2830 fps if memory serves me correctly. It doesn't lack anything in the...
Update on the Smith work on the 30-06.
After a long summer repairing A/C units I finally sweaked in some time to shoot the gun. Since the scope was taken off I used a laser bore sighter to align it close at 25 yards. Later took it to the range at 100 yards. Lets just say the 180 BT load I used...
