6.5 CM Nosler 140 CC Bullet

I calculated recoil for some of the loads we have been discussing and other popular alternatives. 9.5 pound rifle Tikka CTR. (Foot pounds rounded up). 130 grain hybrid, 39.5 gr Varget, 2850 fps, 10.7 foot pounds, 8.5 recoil velocity. 140 BTHP American Gunner ammo. 140 gr, 42.2 grains H4350 or...

    132 BitterRoot Bonded core 7mm-08

Thanks everyone for sharing Bitterroot stories. I call them"the original and still best" bonded bullet ever made. Many of Bills customers became life long friends, as was I. Some here may recall my long article on Bullet Performance In the 375 H and H Magnum he published in the Bitterroot...

6.5 CM Nosler 140 CC Bullet

I tried the 147 grain ELD-M Hornady ammo the other day at horse ridge and it was not nearly as accurate as the plain jane 140 grain BTHP American Gunner bulk ammo. It shot only 1/2 inch low at 100 but was twice group size. (1 x 2 inches at 200 vs 3/4 x 1 inch). I did not chronograph yet or...

    How to calculate barrel life?

I replace machinegun barrels when they loose 100-200 fps. Precision rifle barrels depend alot on caliber and powder charge. The 6mm XC and 6.5 x 284 seldom go more than 1,800 rounds. Easy to do in one season of competitive shooting. Most serious competitive shooters order two or three barrels...

Corrected pressure in JBM trajectory software

I am confused as to check or uncheck the pressure corrected (or absolute) box when using Bryan Lits trajectory software. It makes a huge difference at 1000 yards (3 MOA). I check local weather data before shooting at long range. Temperature, humidity, altitude. Is weather service data...

    How to calculate barrel life?

Is there a function in QL that predicts barrel life with a particular powder flame temperature and bullet bore/weight/velocity? I am trying to extend life of my 6.5 CM by limiting my load development. Thanks!

6.5 CM Nosler 140 CC Bullet

Thank you! 2700 fps at 55,000 psi for RL16 or 2,800 fps w RL26. I will try both.

6.5 CM Nosler 140 CC Bullet

Could you repeat the QL data for RL16 and the 147 at 2.8 ocl? PS, shot the Tikka today at 1,000 w 140 bthp Hornady gunner ammo in 15 mph cross wind. Three groups, 8x8, 9x12 and 8x8. Good ammo for the money.

New Speer Gold Dot 6.5 mm bullet

I have shot the 62 223, 150 and 165 308 and they were all copper plated not bonded.

New Speer Gold Dot 6.5 mm bullet

Correct me if I am wrong, but arent Gold dots just a lead bullet with electroplated copper "jacket," like the Federal MSR or old Remington Power Lokt (not Core lokt)? (I am dating myself here). Speer claims their pistol bullets are bonded, but that is like saying an inexpensive plated bullet...

6.5 CM Nosler 140 CC Bullet

thanks Bowfishin, you are a real man of science. thank you for your informative posts! Gives me alot of confidence to try RL26 which is on shelves here in Central Oregon. What is temperature of URP or IMR 4451? I will probably not be coating my bullets but will be annealing and maintaining...

ABLR BC (Need to read this from Nosler)

I am glad to see Nosler posting doppler radar verified G7's. the new G7 value for 142 grain 6.5mm is identical to Hornadys 140 ELD-M. That certainly suggests the nosler tip is not deforming at long range. I have come to completely trust the ELD-M and ELD-X line and am glad we can do the...

6.5 CM Nosler 140 CC Bullet

That is amazing velocity for a Creedmoor. I am just starting to reload for it. (Tikka T3x CTR and Hornady brass). Has anyone heard if RL26 is a barrel burner in the CM like RL17?

180gr Win Power Point VS. African Plains Game and Red Stag

This is an older thread but Id lilke to comment. I think the WW power point is probably the best cup and draw bullet ever made for hunting. The brass jacket w copper coating is much more ductile than most copper jackets and supports the mushroom. Jacket thickness at heel is around 0.049 inch...

    Powder burn rate charts

Where do Norma URP and RL 16 fit in? Or did I miss them? I'm thinking 6.5 CM.

    308 Winchester 178 grain Hornady

I am getting 2670 fps at 80 degrees w Pro Hunter from stainless 20 inch Remington 40 X barrel (reduced to 20 inches). 2640 fps at 38 degrees. 43 grains Varget at 78 degrees was a little too hot in my rifle w WW brass and Federal 210 Benchrest primers at 2.865 OCL. (2710 fps). Flat primers...

    308 Winchester 178 grain Hornady

I spoke to Hornady tech yesterday and he reviewed reloading notes for me on the ELD-X. Varget and 4064 were most accurate, so no surprise there. He said next 50 fps increment put it over SAAMI specs in their rifle/brass/primer combo. They show 42.4 Varget as max. I should have asked asked...

    308 Winchester 178 grain Hornady

Thanks Mark, That is right in line with what I have been getting. My OCL is 2.86 which is the maximum I can load in AI magazines. That gives me a 50/1000 jump to engage rifling. Not ideal but still getting 3/4 - 1 inch V/H groups at 100 and better than I can hold at 1,000. What is your OCL...

    308 Winchester 178 grain Hornady

Is anyone using the ELD-M, ELD-X or BTHP fro Hornady? Ive been loading Varget at 2600-2640 fps in a Remington 40X in Winchester brass without apparent pressure signs. the #10 Hornady manual says this is over pressure. 2460 is the highest velocity powder from a 22 inch barrel at 2550 fps. Pro...

ELD load work ups strikes again

The ELD-X G7 BC is for real. Ive been shooting them in my 308 at Horse Ridge out to 1,000 yards and it is the flatest shooting 308 bullet Ive ever used. 32.5 MOA DOPE for 1,000. Correlates to .268 g7 or there abouts.
