There has been a lot of discussion on which of the rounds to in the ever changing regs here in Indiana on the rifle round regulations over the past few years.
At first we thought it was exactly as yours is posted (and is also the same going on in Ohio reportedly anyway, for the first time...
AH YES.........which brings up a question. Buying a USED rifle in a Weatherby round?
Aren't most fairly HARD on barrels? I think there was were the original idea of buying a used BDL and rebarreling came to light in my head.
Velocity, knock down etc etc.........all good. Accuracy is...
and I just went to GB........site is down, AGAIN. I wonder how many strokes these site failures have caused if such happens towards end of an auction some are watching.
God Bless
back up now........never lasts long.
There has been a few CDLs on gunbroker and I've kind of half kept track on how they sell. Wood-pecker that I am and BDL lover is the reason for my question on any possible issues rebarreling an older BDL in the Wby rounds. I just got stuck loving the monte carlo cheek piece on a rifle but the...
Ok. Help me out here.
JOC's recommended load was 49.5 grains of IMR4064? TWO full grains over maximum in Hodgdon's load manual online?
130gr Hornady SP
IMR 4064 47.5 grains 2932 fps
130gr Barnes TSX
IMR 4064 47.3 grains 3013 fps.
Not stirring the pot. Really. But it's rare for me to see...
Hmmm.......well, don't feel like the lone stranger waiting a day.
I thought I deleted this thread. LOL
OH yeah, the 270 Win is a great round. I've no qualms there and no decisions have been made. I'm just gathering up info from those willing to share. It just seems to me that, at least once...
HA........just when you thought you got RID of me, I'm BACK.
Not real common knowledge and nope, not yet carved in stone is the "proposed" regulation change in Indiana to allow for:
"•Allows additional rifles to be used by reducing the bullet size required to .243 and eliminating the...

Sorry, I wasn't clear. This was a factory barrel set back so had factory sights. No drilling required but more attention to trimming on the set back so sight holes align to top. I don't use iron sights so was not a HUGE deal but just showed "an issue" since obvious to me (since much shorter...
Such occurrences just make my skin crawl. My condolences for what that is worth.
IMHO, there is no "fixing" such when something less than the original chamber/barrel/finish is involved but maybe I get a little "too attached" to my rifles, and believe me, none of mine have the monetary value of...
JUST my 2 cents on the 284 case and wildcats.
They do NOT better fit a short action......and exactly why the 6.5x284 (same length brass) are all chambered in long actions.
The 350 Rem mag, 6.5 rem mag and the 284 all ran into SERIOUS bullet seating issues loading higher BC bullets to short...
What is in MY mind on this, for a wildcat anyway, is (1) take the particular bullet you expect to shoot most (or general range of bullets) and measure the amount of the bullet that comes in contact with the rifling in length......and stay under that by whatever margin one feels is mandatory to...
I am looking at freebore for the wildcat I'm working on and I just don't see any relationship, not even close, or how Weatherby came up with these freebore lengths in these rounds.
Some with the same general case capacities, some with same calibers (and bullet lengths), same velocities.etc...
All very helpful and informative.
The chamber pressures of the 416 do vary a lot online in reports and I had read the cordite and Africa temps had lots to do with the CP quoted back then. I am, however, little surprised someone hasn't hooked a few modern rifles with modern components up to a...
Thinking "online" as it were so I'll either confuse the issue more or clarify it some (for myself).
With the area OF the part of the case pushing rearward being circular, this same area will increase radically as the diameter of the rim (or bottom of the case body under pressure) increases...
So I don't get in trouble running my yap, Vince.........click the link I have a couple posts up that is on wikipedia. Pretty much it's simply the pressure on the bolt face caused by the expanding gasses shoving the cartridge case AT YOU.
It CAN damage your bolt lugs if they are not...
Not knowing me personally, guys........you have NO idea how FRUSTRATED this makes me!!
Lilja barrels don't recommend 700 actions for the 378 ( or that ilk)......but Remington made one.
Bolt thrust on the 416 Rigby is "immense" (even though a very moderate chamber pressure round?)...
Ok. I know what bolt thrust IS......but I'm obviously looking at the whole shebang from an incorrect angle or..........something.
The MAIN factors I keep reading about are the size of the case and rim diameter.
It would SEEM (to me) that the larger diameter of the case body AND longer lengths...
