Because I don't shoot boxes and boxes of bullets dedicated for hunting, I consider Barnes my favorite bullet manufacturer.
I think it's wise in this day and age to pick up multiple quantities of whatever you need when it becomes available. As such, I am stocked on .358 180 TTSX and 200 TTSX...
Late to the dance... Anything with a 35 and Whelen stamped on the barrel. 200 TTSX makes it 400 yard capable, though never have taken an animal past a lasered 341 yds.
The gunsmith stamped "IMP" after the "35 Whelen" stamp on the pre-chambered Shilen barrel he fitted to a Mauser action...
What's your experience been with the eye relief on the rs2? I have a VX3HD 3.5-10. Eye relief is similar to my older Leupolds, which means it is very good.
Interested in the Maven, however eye relief is something I've seen come up in comments. Specs aside, what is your experience?

Adjust the factors, which you did and yielded about 5000 psi over. That load is over pressure. Do you disagree with your words? Is shooting loads or recommending someone to shoot over what is established as industry maximums a prudent thing to do? Yes or no.
With respect, what part about the fact it's 5 grains over what the bullet manufacturer says is a max load doesn't register? Barnes said to use the 100 TTSX data. They pressure test these loads, they don't play with factors in a computer program. They shoot it and they get a reading.

Yes, curious as well how it turned out. I mounted a VX3HD 3.5-10x40 CDS ZL a bit over a year ago on my 35 Whelen AI, been working well.
It replaced a VX-II that had been on there for a couple decades. I simply wanted to upgrade the glass and the CDS ZL is the only option you have with them...
Your friend is dangerous with his practices. It's even more scary that he uses the Internet as his justification. How many loading manuals has he picked up and read any type of information from?
I've got one guess as to one source he's looking at, and it starts with Rokslide. Plenty of guys...
Stay away from him with that load in his gun.
That load is 5 gr and 400 fps over book max according to Barnes data I can locate for the 100 TTSX. Not the LRX, but probably pretty close.
Most areas in Colorado (if that's where these were taken) ATVs are not permitted so thanks for sharing on the horse. Still wondering how they got back to camp in one piece. Must've shot them in the rut, the wheel ruts in the road. :)
Great picture! I am really interested how you got two elk underneath the meat pole and lifted right up. Obviously, didn't drag them back to camp... Lol.
I thought it was simple to see my post was 100% humor and nothing to be taken seriously, unless you subscribe to Murphy's law :);). Just in case, I want to make that very apparent now if folks didn't or weren't able to read the room on that one. 👍
Tangent... What does interfere with Nosler bullet production? Do they supply out to many places and the retail market comes last?
With that said, are Nosler monos hard to come by in the calibers they make them in? Never too late to get on the wave that's inevitably coming to shore.
Let's think this through, for grins sake... Do not take the .308 or any back up rifle. That will guarantee one of you is gonna have to borrow the others rifle for a shot at an elk. With the .308 contingency, Murphy is going to leave you alone and you'll have to take your chances. Lol.
Would blackening the bullet and case neck down through the shoulder with a sharpie work to see where the contact is? Based on his issue, it might be worth a try? Thoughts?
I started with Barnes in 1993, 30 years hunting with the X bullet this year. It ain't broke... no need to fix anything, lol. I chased bullets all around the block in my early years. Like the grass was greener. It's not. Find what works and stick with it.
I haven't been here for a while, so my earlier posts are what got you on that track? Wow, that's neat. The 200 TTSX is the holy grail in the Whelen or AI which I'm sure you've heard before, lol. BC of the 200 TTSX is higher than the 225 TSX. The additional velocity of the 200 TTSX and better...
Lol on the one-up... I believe mine were the secant ogive as well, like the tip goes straight back, per se, to the shank.
They help give the Whelen ranging ability way above what most folks not in the know believe.
