(y) I agree Gil
I dont scope either the Winchester or Browning, but in my case I just dont feel the need to do so, plus the 71 is not really scope friendly anyway. For me, not using one is just one more thing I dont need to concern myself with. I do use a scope on the 275 H/H for sheep...
I remember that rifle.
Is he still in the Marine corp Scotty ?
Your daughter must be in college now.
Time sure flies by
anyway--congrats on the rifle Hawk and rjm
all good suggestions. I would think the 6.5 x 55 and the Creedmoor would also work. Personally, I am happy with the 275 H & H. Excellent for Caribou, Wolf, Deer, Sheep and Goats. My husband has a 270 Weatherby that works well for the aforementioned species also. He likes and uses the 270...
Had a couple of requests from members to respond but I think everybody here already knows what I use and for what

Bison
Muskox
Elk
Bear -- White, Brown, Black
that rifle has also taken Caribou and Deer, but usually Deer and Caribou are hunted with the 275 H& H
I was finally able to have a good conversation with my husband about your wanting a Weatherby rifle. If we understood your original post it is your first one and may possibly be your only one. You also want it to be chambered in one of their calibers and one they make for a left handed...
thank you. For hunting in the north country, it is a very nice caliber. and weatherby makes very nice rifles. some will argue that is is a lot of gun for animals like Caribou, goat, sheep and Wolf, but in this part of the world I would prefer to have too much gun as apposed to not enough...
a member emailed me and ask me to respond
Gerry, my husband has several Weatherby's, but to zero in on the ones your talking about and/or thinking about, and assuming this might be a rifle for goat to moose, possibly even for bear in defense of life and property, since you guys can no longer...
Gil, hope you had an opportunity to read my post before editing/cancelling it and--you are correct.
It was a lively thread until I posted and brought it to a screeching halt, although besides responding I ask a question--no problem
I hope you and Susan are doing well and are Corona virus free.
he is not joking fellows
at least up this way we can hunt hare, squirrel, porcupine, grouse, ptarmigan
with a sling shot and/or BB gun and two of the five I have successfully hunted with both

Someday I hope to be rich like you AND Gil and can afford more than three rifle's and a shotgun. And to be able to hunt somewhere besides Canada, so I can ad to my animals hunted list. BUT, I might have more dogs than you do (-;
I have only hunted in Canada, so my list is not that large
Moose ( three different breeds but they all tasted the same )
bear ( 4 different ones--Whie, Black, Brown, Grolar --they tasted different )
caribou( 5 different breeds and they tasted the same )
Sheep ( 3 different breeds and they...
Dan, another middle of the road caliber I found to be very effective on a wide range of game was the 7mmwsm,
Browning does not make them any longer but there are good BLR rifles on the market in that caliber. You mentioned something a bit heavier and as has been mentioned the 358 in the BLR...
Dr Mike, Gerry, Gil, Don, Josh, Mike, others from Alaska and Canada see this quite often. So I am not the only one who sees bears regularly. I thought some here might get a laugh out of this. I recently gave a lecture to some who were going into the mountains and had bear questions. One young...
Truck, camp, plane, canoe, sled.
348/71 . however soon I will also be able to rotate between a 358 Wolf and 348 Win
Gerry, I dont use a scope on the lever rifles. Do you shoot them pass 100 yards ?
I am permitted to carry a handgun but dont. They are, on average, a slower option for me...
I have decided to buy a 358 Sako wolf
and
I have decided to try the 348 Pedersoli also
I know several here have the Sako's and like them, so no fear there but
Does anyone have a Pedersoli ? And if so ?
David, Good for you and dont give up. look for publications and cable news broadcasters who are sympathetic to your point of view and ask them to help you. Continue to go to every meeting and continue to ask the same questions and some reporters will find you. Always present your facts and...
