Thank you so much for the articles Guy!
They were very informative!
You’re so right about no one buys a .270 to be low velocity!
There is a QL thread here where I asked DrMike for info from a 22 inch barrel. I think a lot of those velocities will really open your eyes, they did...
I read today, on the site, The Ballistic Studies, that there is really only one ammo maker loading the .270 to its potential, and that’s Olin (Winchester).
The others, except for the Hornady Superformance, are keeping the round loaded medium wise. That really stinks.
But, the site, and article...
Thank you so very much DrMike!
WOW! The new powders really put a lot more zip into the old cartridge!
The 150 gr load is only 100 - 125 fps off from the 7mm Rem Mag factory velocities!
That’s good stuff!!
Even out of a 22 inch barrel, like mine!

I forgot to mention, too, that it seems, and for some odd reason, that the .270 Winchester has been showing itself more to me the past 2-3 years. I didn’t initially go looking for .270, just the Savage 110/111 long action ( or Standard ) as some manufacturers like to call it.
I got this one for...
For as old as it is, it’s really in very good condition.
I will mess around with the adjustable trigger a little. A lot of people didn’t know, and may not yet know that these Savage rifles triggers could be adjusted. That should help quite a bit.
Yeah, I do intend on putting it to work here in...
Hey DrMike!
I was wondering if you could run a QL for me?
I have a Savage 110E with a 22 inch barrel.
I was wondering if you could plug in some data for 130 gr, 140gr, and 150gr bullets, please?
Thank you in advance, DrMike!

I love my plain jane Blackhawk in .41 Mag!
It’s recoil isn’t objectionable, and the amount of muzzle energy is amazing!
One of the best rounds ever invented!

Has anyone ever wondered how things just seem to work out, and finally glad that they have?
I bought another Savage rifle, a 110E, in .270 Winchester! Well, I saw how bad it looked at first, and decided I would make it into another project Gun. But, as things go, she actually cleaned up really...
Oooo! Thank you Scotty for posting this!
You know how to make a man’s heart pitter-patter!
Your velocities are perfect too.
That’s a lot of horse power going down range with those loads!

Guy,
I, personally, would use the 45-70.
There’s only one degree of dead. Now, to say, the 45-70 will make a big cat expire quicker.
But there’s no flies on the .30-30 either.
I know the .45-70 is a little heavier, and the .30-30 is lighter.
I guess it depends on the terrain and area you’ll be...
Ah yes!
So you know about the 35 Whelen as well.
That’s respectable velocity with a 225gr GK.
I believe you’re right, there’s nothing on this continent that can withstand a 35 Whelen.
I know of a guy on another forum that has gotten velocities of the 225gr GK and AB up to 2850fps.
Also, his...
