Joel much better!
I had a feeling that your dies had been made to form cases from 300 H&H. Have to remember that this wildcat was born before there was a 300 Win Mag and 300 H&H was used to form the Mashburn originally. Pretty sure it was Bob Hagel who started using the 300 Win Mag to form the...
The FL/seater dies from RCBS can be purchased from Huntington Die Specialties.
They are called "7mm Super Mashburn Mag Short", Part # 10-56234,Group G.
They are special order as we'd expect.
Here are the dies you need,or that I use.
Keep in mind that the RCBS Full length die and seater die are referred to as 7 Mashburn "Short". It's actually the "super". Where short came from I have no idea. I will try to find the right dies at Huntington Die Specialties and post them.
Joel I...
After FF. They don't look a WHOLE lot different after a trip through the form dies.
Lets go from the beginning.
I just formed these cases with new Hornady brass to illustrate this post.
Left to right:
1) 300 Win Mag case.
2) 300 win Mag case after trip through Form Die.(This forms the new...
OK. Then just lube the 300 WM cases and run them into the FL Mashburn die. This should form the new shoulder and reduce neck diameter in one step.
Then FF the case using either method you want.
If they don't chamber after a trip through the FL die, screw the die down more and feel the press...
Joel: Skip the lube. No needed for the form/trim dies.
1) run the 300 win mag case into the form die,which forms the new shoulder;
2) then the case into trim die which reduces neck diameter. No need to trim anything.
3) This is a wildcat.Reamers and chambers may vary slightly. As a next...
Interesting stuff to read and a good explanation.
A bit nuanced and not terribly relevant to me, because a load either shoots well to 500-600 yard or it doesn't.
Since I am not a target shooter, the interesting stuff starts for me after a bullet hits the animal. i am more interested in the...
I'd agree with everything Guy Miner said. I have sighted in a slew of hunting rifles over the years in temps from 70-80 degrees and then hunted them later the same year in temps from 40F to -25F in Central Canada...but mostly from 0-40 degrees. I have never experienced a change in POI if the...
In my experience it isn't unusual to run into a 7 Rem Mag load that generates in the 3200 fps vicinity with a 140 gr bullet, and double base propellants like RL19 or RL22.
I don't have it in front of me but am pretty sure even the Nosler Manual will confirm those velocities in the 7 RM.
Anyway...
I love the bullet for practice...very accurate in a couple of 7 mags for me. I'd whack a deer at distance with one but for most stuff like elk on up I like the Partitions.
I'd be interested in seeing how the 175 gr loads shoot at 200-400 yards before I passed judgement on any of it.
Nvbroncrider have you tried any 160's yet?
To the guy who wanted to know what the 7mm Mizzum is, it was my nickname for the 7mm Mashburn Super magnum. a wildcat 7mm originally...
QL is a good reference source but does not take into consideration the characteristics of individual barrels,land/groove configuration and dimensions, throat length etc.
Maybe I should have phrased what i was trying to say differently. Obviously if Nosler is using the LRAB in the 26 and 28 Nosler, they are capable of shooting well at high velocity.
But if you are driving them ( or any bullet) over max in a given case, accuracy frequently falls into the...
