I'm unsure where Magtech primers are on the brisance chart, but a hot primer is recommended for densely packed, fine grained W296 loads. H110 is just different lots of W296 if you didn't know. WLPs have been my 1st choice & are labeled for magnum or standard loads. Federal 155s are in 2nd place...
I'm unsure why extractor & ejectors would affect seating depth. Has the headspace changed too?
In my 338-06 Ackley just touched the rifling is at 3.705" with a Davidson seating depth checker from base to ogive. Alvin is long gone as are his tools so this will probably mean nothing to you. I...
If not at the muzzle it would somewhere along the barrel. It seems the expansion ratio with bigger bores doesn't lose as much velocity as the smaller bores. My 358 finished at 21", balances nicely, & comes real close to book loads with 24" barrels.
Reloading manuals are a good thing to have. I have a funny thing about preferring physical books. They were bargains before this latest panic. Good deals can still be found. Nosler, Sierra, & Lyman manuals note the potentially most accurate loads. These powders are usually a real good place to...
I have a couple of pounds of RL12 with a 10-90 lot #. The cans say Hercules on the label. If I remember right it worked really well with 50s & 52s in a 22-250 I once had. I cant find the load data so it may have gone with the rifle when it got sold. It struck me as a short grained 4064. Clean...
It's 4th generation now I think. My dad went to high school with Eugene (RIP), & Eugene's son was running the place last time I was up there (2013).
My kids still live in PA & go to Knoebel's regularly. I think my dad's 1st job was there in the 40s.
Are any of the Greco's still doctoring?
My parents got married in Mt. Carmel. I remember driving thru Centralia proper before they rerouted Rt.61. My aunt had a house up there (M.C.) she tried to sell me before I left the snow behind. Matucci's had the best pizza I ever tasted & we spent a few summers at a long since disappeared cabin...
I just wandered thru fleabay reloading. RCBS shellholders 3 & 10 are bringing upwards of $40 used. The Hornady #10 manual is at a $80+ premium too for some reason. It's madness for any of the popular cals. Junky old rusted presses missing pieces are bringing more than new ones did 6 months ago...
Mine is 42" off the floor. I can stand but usually sit on an adjustable stool. I've downsized the bench to about 1/2 of what it was so also use a tall Inline Fab. riser set back a bit from the edge at an angle to swap presses around. All other accessories are mounted to a piece of T stock & held...
Just something to think about with an optical unit... skyscreens are much cheaper than a complete chronograph. No matter how careful we are it does happen. I've shot 2 so far. Oehler screens were $25 each about 30 years ago & are up to $45 this year.
