Just thought I would post a couple of pics of Hornady bullets I have recovered this past few hunts. Thought you guys might be interested.
The 139SST was recovered from the fallow buck below. It was a really thick and strong animal. The shot was taken from a 7mm08 at about 90 yards in the scrub...
I have used all three but not in the ackley form. Honestly I can’t tell the difference on game. If you put the bullet where it is supposed to go the animals fall over. I think the biggest difference in those three cartridges will be determined by the bullet you run. If I was going to ackley any...
Good luck with all that Paul. Hope the Doc gives you good news. I think with today’s bullets calibre is possibly less important for many game animals than it used to be when bullets were less reliable. If I had to shoot my 260 for the rest of my life, there would still be a pile of critters at...
Tack I retired my 7mmRM this year too after 30 plus years of faithful service. The 98 action still rough as guts compared to today’s actions but it never missed a beat. Over that time it wore 2 bell and Carlson stocks, and like you it was fed a diet of mainly 150nbt’s and not once did they let...
Hi Guys, I have been running a load with 55 grain projectiles which have been very accurate for me. The little 223 is a cartridge I am looking to get to know a little better, it is such a fun little round. With the 64 grain sierra gamechangers, I suspect varget will work well, have H4350 but...
The 215grain SGK is an under rated bullet in my opinion for the 338. Far from being a sexy “modern” projectile, but at the velocities most 338’s shoot, they just seem to work. A good balance between hardness and expansion and have never seen one just pencil through an animal. So many nice...
For 55 grain bullets we had one rifle that liked 34, the other 35 grains of varget. We predominantly used SGK‘s and NBT’s. Didn’t seem to make a difference either way.
Interesting the small gains at the higher pressures, I would have expected more, particularly going from 58,000 to 65,000psi. Maybe 70fps which is literally nothing in the real world for hunting or targets, but I bet the brass feels it.
