    .375" 260 gr Nosler Accubond

A 100 yards can put a deer on a neighbors property for me. That’s why I stopped using them. If I ever had to use them again for deer I’d be aiming high shoulder shots to brake them down. With archery text book shots using Accubonds I have had 100 to 120 yard runners every time all the way up...

.358” projectiles out of spec is quite common I’ve been finding out lately

Did you ever slug the barrel of your gun to see what the diameter of it is? I do this because I shoot Cast bullets in my guns or I would’ve never known that my barrels were a machined at a larger diameter than the projectiles. Your barrel might slug at .357”.

.358” projectiles out of spec is quite common I’ve been finding out lately

Whether my calipers read correctly or not the projectiles are .001” smaller than my slugged 35 Whelen’s bore diameter. Good to know yours are undersized as well. How do they shoot for you and have you slugged your barrel for comparison? My other two 35 cals…35 REM’s both slug at .357” so there...

.358” projectiles out of spec is quite common I’ve been finding out lately

A few years back I was crushing case necks on my 35 Rem brass when trying to seat .358, 180 grain Speer Hot Cores. I couldn’t figure out what was going on at first. Check the specs on my die i’ve used quite a bit in the past with the same bullet, and the measurements were within spec. And then...

Group testing my Remington 7600 carbine in 35 Whelen with 180 grain hot cores

I have a feeling the velocity difference is with the bullet to barrel fitment. I have some “.358” Hornadys in 250 grains and 200 grains that both measure .357” and some “.358” 250 grain Norma’s that measure .3565” they don’t group worth a darn in my barrel that slugs at .358” the 180 grain Hot...

Group testing my Remington 7600 carbine in 35 Whelen with 180 grain hot cores

Always wanted to try the 225 gr seirras. I have a few hundred 220 grain hot cores I have to try out yet.

Group testing my Remington 7600 carbine in 35 Whelen with 180 grain hot cores

Just did my homework on the Nikon ballistic app. It said my load data on Hodgen was around 2650 fps with a 24 inch barrel. My carbine’s barrel length is 18.5” if I remember. I would have to guess about 25 fps slower per inch dropping me to around 2,500 fps. I plugged in my 180 grain Speer Hot...

    .375" 260 gr Nosler Accubond

That would be my guess, but even in my 300 ultra hot loading it isn’t gonna get it 3500 fps without pressure signs. I don’t think there is a factory chambering that going to get a .308, 180 grain bullet up to and past 3500 fps without pressure signs. Even if, it’s going to be more recoil than...

    .375" 260 gr Nosler Accubond

I couldn’t resist…lol. I can remember the very first deer that I shot with that 180 grain occupy out of my 30-06. It was a buck that came limping up opening morning. It had one of its front legs flopping loose. The neighbors were shooting a few minutes prior like there was a war going on. They...

    .375" 260 gr Nosler Accubond

I tried the 260 grain accubond on a quite a few whitetail out of my 375 RUM. Same results every time with broadside heart and lung shots. All ran a good 100 yards after the shot before dropping over dead. IMO just way to hard of a bonded bullet and doesn’t open up enough for instant killing...

.308 180 grain partition gold group testing out of my 300 RUM

I bought the gun back around 99’ or 2000’. It’s a Remington 700 stainless pencil barrel LSS. It never grouped super tight with the groups laminate stock. Normally a hair over MOA. Sent it in to be cryogenically treated. I had a KDF break installed, which is now removed and a thread cap put on. I...

Sure wish Nosler would bring back the .358 (and .375) ballistic tip

I only have one 260 grain NBT left. I don’t think it’s gonna do me much good but it sure is fun to look at.

Battle of the 200 grn Round Noses

I like using cast hollow points myself. Here’s an old post I put together using one on a deer…. https://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?414159-Finally-shot-a-deer-with-my-Marlin-336-and-our-200-grain-HP-group-buy!

Group testing my Remington 7600 carbine in 35 Whelen with 180 grain hot cores

This group below is probably why I rattled the barrel loose to begin with. I found the old target I had posted a few years ago on another forum. I didn’t have any casing pressure signs and I was about 1.5 grains over max book load with H322. I was trying to get it up to Hornady super...

Group testing my Remington 7600 carbine in 35 Whelen with 180 grain hot cores

I didn’t run them through my chronograph because they’re definitely gonna be slower in my little 18 1/2 inch barrel. It said around 2650 fps on Hodgdon’s website. I’m sure that’s with the 24 inch longer test tube. I think that’s what what the quoted book load velocity on my 30-06 is with my...

Group testing my Remington 7600 carbine in 35 Whelen with 180 grain hot cores

I usually never try starting loads since my most of my guns never group good till I approach max suggested loads, or a hair over max. Normally start in the middle and work my way up. I can tell you it’s a lot softer recoil than the 59 and 59.5 grain loads I previously tried with it. I would...

Group testing my Remington 7600 carbine in 35 Whelen with 180 grain hot cores

Guess that was a minimum load charge when I just googled it. It’s amazing that only four grains of powder only jumps that load up only 150 ft./s. I remember I had a pretty good group at 59 or 59 1/2 with that powder a few years ago I’ll have to test it again. I thought I shot up one whole group...

Group testing my Remington 7600 carbine in 35 Whelen with 180 grain hot cores

I tell you to double check your pump slide tube to make sure the threads haven’t backed out. I sure would like to try the seirras some day. Have not tried them yet. My guess is they are a nice soft bullet that comes apart and knock stuff on their butt with tons of energy transfer versus the...

Group testing my Remington 7600 carbine in 35 Whelen with 180 grain hot cores

I ordered this gun as a special run probably in 2019. I’m guessing. Never been able to get nice groups with it worth a darn. It also wouldn’t feed ammo so it went back to Remington. I tried so many ladder tests in it with poor results that I really got sick of shooting it. I did slug the barrel...

90 grain Nosler ballistic tip vs whitetail deer

Yep, they’ve always been hit or miss for me whether I get a big explosive result but game is on the ground every time regardless. I remember when I bought my 243 for coyote hunting and I went out in the woods with it. The first time during anterless only deer hunting a good 2 plus decades ago...
