    Whelen Scope

Jim, when I purchased my .338 Ultra Mag I thought long and hard about the scope I wanted. Midway USA was having a scope sale and I happened to see a Zeiss Diavari in 1.5X6 for an excellent price. I purchased it along with Warne Mounts and it has served me perfectly for Elk on Down. My longest...

    300 RUM Brains Trust

Agree 100 percent. I've had mine since it's inception and I was continually amazed at how fast it dropped animals. Great long range caliber. The recoil is something you adjust to but in cooler weather with a jacket or heavy sweatshirt not a problem.

    Foliage is peaked!

I have a good friend living in Dover Fox Croft, Maine I spoke with recently. He stated the colors were exceptional this year.

    Approaching 70...

Guys, I try to look at it on the positive side. I've had a Heart Attack along with some other side issues and I move through the woods a lot slower. I find though that moving slow gives you the ability to see a lot more. I'll be 81 before too much longer but my brain keeps telling me I'm 25 and...

    Birthday # 66

Don't want to sound negative on the RMEF but about 12 years ago I was Elk hunting in Colorado on a leased piece of property near the town of Oak Creek. Hunted this same spot for a good number of years and was great friends with the owner. A good number of Elk were taken by myself and my hunting...

2 things you always carry in the woods

I noticed no one mentioned toilet paper. It has many uses in addition to its normal use which I can guarantee you will happen once you're in the woods about a 1/4 of a mile.:ROFLMAO: After reading the post again I see that Toilet paper was mentioned a couple of times. Good thinking!!!!

    British totalitarianism

I hate to say it but I believe you are correct. Of course if Harris does get in she won't be running the country. The behind the scenes people will take over. I do see communism and Socialism rearing their head and once the constitution is gone that will be the end all.

    Thompson Center coming back

Scotty, I have a 7MM-08 barrel for my Competitor Arms Pistol and I can tell you it is quite a shooter. I'm sure a Thompson Contender with that barrel would do just as well.

.300 WSM 150 grain Corelokt Tipped

I would give Midway a quick look for those bullets. I purchased a box of 200 grain bullets for my .35 Remington a while back and ended up with 200 grain Remington bullets.

    British totalitarianism

I think if the Bobbies came over here and tried something stupid like that we would return to 1776 for a wee bit and send them packing,

    357 Sig reloading questions

As has been said full length resize and understand that the case shrinks just a little bit after firing. Headspace off the shoulder and not the case mouth. Everglades ammo makes bullets for this caliber (the shoulder is set higher) I use a Lee factory crimp die as it eliminates bullet setback...

    Hunting Knife - Recommendations

Up until about 12 years ago my Buck 110 folder worked perfectly for deer. Having a few extra bucks in my pocket I decided to try a custom knife. I knew a dealer that was selling Randall knives (when you could still get them without waiting for 3 years) I ended up with a just under 4 inch blade...

    Magnum vs standard rifle primer

I learned the hard way about using Magnum primers in cold weather. I had loaded up some 7MM-08 140 Grain Sierra Game kings/with H414 with standard primers and then after sighting in took the combination to Maine for my annual deer hunt. Well the temperature got down to about 10 below one...

What will be your cartridge/rifle of choice for this fall? Second?

My only hunting these days is Whitetails as my buddy has serious issues with his eyes. Many good years of Elk hunting in Colorado but Maine Whitetails are no slouch. My rifle is a Rem. 700 Titanium in 7MM-08. Wears a Leupold 2.5X8 and stuffed with Sierra 140 grain Game kings. I've lost track of...

    Elk Hunting Caliber

I couldn't agree more. My .338RUM has taken a number of Elk over the years the longest shot being 326 yards. In each case the Elk headed right to the ground and no tracking was needed. I've used both the 225 grain partition and the Sierra 225 Grain Pro hunter and both bullets performed perfectly.

    WTF????

Charlie, based on what I heard on three different occasions he was using open sights. I'm sure as time goes on more will come out. I'm curious as to what the SS sniper said in regards to holding his shot for so long. He had the shooter in his sights for three minutes and apparently someone was...

    Switched to bigger cartridge

I can understand him wanting her to learn to shoot a larger caliber. The .243 at its best is very light for Elk hunting. And as distance to the animal increases the .243 becomes less effective. While hunting for Elk in Colorado I've seen and talked to hunters who carry a .243 for Elk hunting...

    Reliable scopes for carbines?

I'm reading all the comments on Scope power and it made me realize that I made the right choice with my Model 700 .338RUM. I have a Zeiss 1X6 with Warne Mounts that's been on it since day one and taken a good number of Elk with it out to just over 300 yards (326 yards to exact) At 6 power Elk...

    Bite me ODFW

Good luck on the Antelope Jim. My buddy has been trying to draw a private land Antelope for four years with no luck. He's told that the herd is down. He buys points and that's a plus for Fish and Game.
