I kind of brought it up on a different thread, but since this is annealing 101 I'll ask here: if you're loading at not quite max or max even, (my 25-06 for example) and using brass that has been fired several times without annealing -- will you get a little carbon, discoloration, or soot on just...
Thanks, desertcj. I'm really not sweating it for now. I've got about 30 of them left loaded and velocity and accuracy is fine with me. Just curious about those questions. I think one of the first things I might do is anneal the necks on some of the fired ones and try the same load. My limited...
Have been loading and shooting my 25-06 for a long time. The loads I developed recently and have been using with Nosler 115 BT's shoot OK, velocity is about 3050. Winchester brass, several times fired, never annealed.
These loads all leave some carbon (not heavy soot) behind on the neck only. I...
Is that an old Carhartt vest with a collar? I need one! Guy, I admire your photos, writing, and time teaching. I have made my own blue/gray cyclones following your advice. Got a nice freezer pronghorn buck at 200 yds., moving steadily, but not really running. Swung with him and held in front...
Had mine, an Ohaus 505 for a long time. I've weakened the magnet damper, cleaned pivots, and stoned the knife edges with a super fine hone. Put a bottom travel cushion bouncer below the beam pointer. It was moving slow and sort of hanging up a tenth or so off. Works fine now.
I'd ask the smiths to do a chamber cast, take pictures and do the measurements (there's a time factor) and send that back to you while they figure it out. Did it check out to be the 1: 7.5 twist you ordered? Just curious.

I love reading your loading adventures! On my laptop though, the pictures from Tapatalk Pro iPhone come across blown up so big they spill off the screen and across the floor - maybe it's just me, I know, but curious if others experience this. Even so, another beautiful rifle and great write-up! EE2
That's all I know. Smith & Wesson put out the announcement that T/C is shut down, orders cancelled, and the company to be divested. Which means if and when it gets picked up it will be a while before any new production T/C stuff shows up. S&W will retain their production tooling and use it on...
I checked it out, don't have experience with it. Just suggest you look at the GRS Bifrost stock. About the same price, more features. My son got one last summer and it is outstanding. EE2
I'm sure you will make a good choice. Like I've told others, practice to the point of confidence and muscle memory established for the whole loading, aiming, shooting, unloading and safety is really key. With that comes quicker reactions and clearer thinking on shot placement, use of rests, and...
ST -The actual headspace fit of this brass is 3.5 pieces of scotch tape then. I don't agree with Charlie, and I wouldn't tell a smith to set a barrel back based on how 40 pieces of nickel plated R-P brass fit. Maybe if I had 400 of 'em and I knew that was all I wanted to use. ST, you got good...
I will always pay more attention to those who answer questions here based on real experience. Several in this thread (who are not concerned with hypothetical donuts or actual brass wall thickness in the neck) have patiently explained that .270 to 25-06 works for them with many rounds. Add me to...
All good advice here. Above all, don't let a situation force you into a hurried shot at a bad angle. Try to hold out for relaxed quarry, broadside and not moving. Practice shooting from different positions and getting into those positions. Decide for yourself and discuss whether to hunt with...
Paul B, I too have had shipments bounce around, with a couple deliveries making loops back and forth with delay notices. Like shown as arriving and leaving a processing point only to arrive and leave there again. We're all anxious to find out if the pot really got sweetened. One box of 20...
Guy, way back when the Weaver K4 was the darling of many writers and shops selling them, I couldn't afford one, but the K3 was a little cheaper. Jack O'Connor even recommended it, so I got one. I did a lot of woods still hunting, often getting to those places horseback. The power was just right...
Paul B - I truly hope this works out for you! It reminds me of the downward spiral of several companies that I consulted for during my professional career. Companies that started out great with a product or service that was recognized as unique. Sort of like a partition bullet. Started by and...
