When I was looking for a kids rifle, I looked at the Howa mini in this chambering. Seems like it would be a great deer round for younger kids. In the end, I got a great deal on a .308, so went with that. I just load it down for the kids, for now.
Hello,
I'd be grateful if someone were willing to run this load for me. The Speer data doesn't cover H 4895. Thank you!!

I've been tempted by the 140 grain for my 7mm-08. I looked for data on the Federal website, but they only had it for the 160's in that chambering. Seems to me that if you're offering bullets for reloading, you'd want to offer some data as well...
Interesting. I started thinking about it because I have noticed that my rifle always seems to shoot about 60-80 fps slower than books, or QL says it should. It's also very rare for me to encounter any major pressure signs. Only once have I ever experienced a sticky bolt lift and that just...
A question (or two) for all you highly experienced reloaders: I've heard many people talk about velocity as a sign of pressure issues, usually saying that velocities much higher than published for a given charge, are themselves, a pressure sign, even if there's no sign of flattened primers...
Altitude can make a big impact, but I think it's good at least that far. I shot that antelope at 250 and running the numbers, I'd was confident out to 300+ in Wyoming.
Interestingly, I just got back from the range, where I fired that last-hope group and... it was a 3/4" group just a hair...
It seems like mine likes 160's better as well. I've now tested 4 different powders with the 140s and haven't seen one group better than about 1.5 inches. I have one last group to shoot this afternoon that I suspect might be accurate enough, but without enough velocity to satisfy me. If this...
I've been reading a bunch about OAL and would like to bounce what I think I've learned, off all you very experienced handloaders. My understanding is:
For the same powder charge, increasing OAL will reduce pressure and velocity (unless you touch the lands, in which case you could cause a...
I would have if groups had held any promise at those levels. However, my max, or near max groups were in the 3" range. I have a fussy rifle. When it likes something, it will shoot it well under an inch, and I have a few loads like that. When it doesn't like something, it lets you know by...
I'm hoping I'm wrong about this, but I have a developing theory that my rifle just doesn't like anything too fast. It seems that with 140 grain bullets, I often find best accuracy around 2700fps. With 145's it's around 2650 and with 160's it's around 2500.
RL 17 and Big Game were both awful...
Well, my quest to find the perfect load for the 140 accubond in my 7mm-08 continues. Having gotten no success with Big Game, or RL 17, I'm going to try Varget and H 4895. The Varget data is listed, but if someone were willing to run a QL for me on the H 4895, I'd really appreciate it.

I'm pretty new to the chronograph. Having one has been fascinating so far, but I also get the sense that little things can have big effects on the readings. I've had the same load give me a 3 shot spread of only 12 or 15 fps, then do the same thing a few days later, but with an average...
