I gotta say, with RL26's performance envelope, I may sell off my 264WM, because it just doesn't offer much over a 270 anymore.
I'm not even really kidding. When you start flinging 150gr 277's at 3k, there's not a lot of daylight between that and the 264's 140s at 3100-3200.
Haven't been able to hit the range, yet.... but I'm thinking...
pre64 barrels sure ain't the lightest things out there, but when I dropped that rifle into that Carbelite, it changed. And it changed in a good way. Light(er), balanced....felt really nice.
I think that's where it's gonna go for...
I have two older Leupold (Pre-VX era) and trust them.
My VX7 is going to get sold after hunting season.
I've had enough of the Leupold 2-step at the range.
Nothing moving but the treetops this morning. Man did it get windy.
Hoping it lays down at dark and they get hungry.... I'm hungry for some tenderloins. :)
Boy am I glad you're all there for me in my hour of need. ;)
So---
6.5-06...I have a 264WM, so I'm not sure I want to split that hair much thinner.
280AI.....you have my attention.
I'd mentioned getting a sporter 03A3 recently to make into a 400 Whelen, except said sporter 03A3 turned out...
I blame half of this forum for the fact that my M70 population has reached double digits.
The other half didn't directly participate, but they didn't try to pump the brakes, either.
;)
A buddy of mine enjoys going to auctions as a hobby. He's gotten some stellar buys.
He came across a transition period M70 rifle...standard rifle in 270 Win....in a stock he likes, but to a Model 70 person it's......well....it's not what most would want, put it that way.
Anyway, bluing is in...
I saw none at all today. Heard far less shooting than on Saturday. My daughter had a shot and didn't quite make it happen. She'll be back at it Saturday. I have off tomorrow for one more try, but it was very dead in the woods today here in Berks.
This is something I'm interested in right now.
I have an old M70 on my bench that is in 270 Win. The rifle was apparently not used for a long, long, long time. I haven't committed to a purchase yet, and I'm suspect that the bore may be a bit further gone than desired. It had some rust near the...
Thanks DrMike. We have ice all over everything right now, which could make things difficult tomorrow. It's above freezing slightly now and supposed to stay that way, so I'm hoping our ladder stands are usable in the morning. I have options if not, but she is really wanting to get to a certain...
There's talk of dropping our point restrictions soon, especially in the CWD designated Disease Management Areas. They are specifically discussing the need to target the young bucks in those areas because whitetail bucks tend to disperse at 1.5 yrs old, potentially carrying the disease some...
5C....
Didn't see an antler all day here. Only one of the 5 of us saw any antlers and there was no way the hunter could tell if the deer was legal.
Back at it on Monday...hoping to tip one over with a rack on its head.
Today was an historic day in Pennsylvania.
Since the early 1960's, PA's rifle deer season opened on the Monday after Thanksgiving.
Today it opened on obviously the Saturday after Thanksgiving, to much controversy among hunters. Opinions are very mixed.
Be that as it may, we saw little deer...
Well, they didn't. She saw a few, but nothing was even remotely in a good shooting position/situation for her. She's a frustrated kiddo tonight. Moreso because I and two others killed does today, and one hunter also whacked a coyote, too.
No hunting here on Sunday, but she can hunt the morning...
My daughter just turned 17. She shot her first deer with her late great-grandfather's 257 Roberts.
Then, as her left eye was dominant, I got her a lefty M70 in 7mmWSM and loaded her reduced loads. She killed two bucks with that rifle.
Then her eye dominance shifted and she is now right eye...
