With that light of a bullet Id start with slightly quicker powders if it was me. 4198, H322, etc.
You should have a low recoil, fast shooting combo with those.
Any of you guys ever use a F/L bushing die with the bushing removed or a body only die (Redding makes them ) to bump back the shoulder on a loaded round? I and many of my friends have. Just need to wipe external lube off well.
It works really slick as long as you have loaded ammo that wasn't...
Agree that 40 VMax and BT violent but in reduced velocity loads I d wager a bet the 40 TCM HP will be their equal. And if cost is a consideration for OP at a significant savings.
The 40 TCM is not a 250-400 yd bullet though since it's got such a big HP and low BC.
350JR, if you re looking for splat factor with reduced loads check out the 40 gr TCM HP bullets that you can order through Ammo Warehouse west. ( Nevada) They were designed for the TCM cartridge and thus expand mightily !! We ve shot thousands on Sage rats with Blue Dot loads running 2700-2800...
Anyone been shooting a 6 CM with 105 gr range of bullets in the 2800-2900 fps range with good accuracy? Plan to build new rifle/cartridge off my Rem700 SA in either 6 Dasher or 6 CM. It's a floorplate gun in a McMillan stock so worried about Dasher feeding good.
Don't need 3060-3100 fps from...
Shadetree, you got it working good!! I fought mine for probably the first 100 plus rounds. I did figure out early that Lil Gun was too fast and quite volatile. I was hitting pressure with my lot at 9.5 grs and getting 3750 fps!! I switched to AA1680 and my gun started shooting really well (...
JD338 is right on... bullet length most critical. Elevation can have a significant effort too. Velocity of projectile doesn't matter as much as some people think. Try some of the variables in the calculator and you ll get a flavor of what matters most.
And, as mentioned earlier, some combo s...
The ones I have look similar to the more rounded one on the left.
I got a bunch, around 400 or so, in the 50 per box package when a retailer had a big discount of 30 or 40% a number of years back. Got about 100-150 left but don't think I ll pay for the smaller qty box of 50 like others have...
Gbflyer, you re right that not a lot of 17 Hornet shooters but thought I might find a couple. I know Fotis had gotten one about the time I did.
CFE BLK was developed with the 300 BO in mind... maybe something for you to try sometime.
Thx for your reply.
Anyone have first hand experience testing these 2 powders against each other?
I ve been using AA1680 in my 17 Hornet for past 5 years or so and it had produced my best accuracy prior to CFE BLK coming out. Picked up a pound of BLK to compare to my standard AA1680 loads. At maximum published...
Have used 200 grregular AB in my 300 WM and shot 3/4" without much fuss ... unless you re shooting beyond 600 yds or so the std 200 AB at 3000 +/- fps from that 300 WB will be awesome.
Seems like many folks have had tough luck trying to get LRAB s to shoot. Because of that I ve not fooled with...
At 59 degrees and 4000' elevation should be supersonic to 1400-1500 yd range; lots of performance from 42 grs of powder.
When my 22-250 AI is shot out, I m thinking a 22 Creed for easy brass, dies, etc as far as a replacement. I just wonder if an 8 twist will work up to 88-90 grain bullets...
Shot 100 s of 75 VMaxes with IMR4831 in my VLS. It was easy 1/2 MOA and 3400-3425 fps. I loaded 48 grs which is just slightly more than QL prediction. It was a stout load but bolt opened well and Primer pockets stayed tight.
Real nasty on rockchucks and coyotes !
Picked up some 22 caliber 40 gr plastic tips from Midway a month or two ago to get ready for Sage rats and they re a flat base ( thus I believe Nosler and not Hornady) and they ve got 'gray plastic tips' on them too!!
Threw me a curve when I first in-boxed them ... lol
