Try a group or two at .120 off and see how it does. Lots of guys say .100 + off is where they find accuracy.
Personally I haven't played with the monolithics though.
Steve99, what stock is on your Remington? Nice looking. I have a B&C Medalist on mine but giving thought to something lighter. I really like my 7-08 and this is a great thread.
mcseal2,
I d just go with the 110 AB as it's a Great bullet for the 257 Weatherby.
Know the BC lags the Eldx a bit BUT the AB will be just as flat and wind defying if you push it up to 3400+ fps range plus it ll hold together. I m shooting them at 3425 fps with a stout load of R22 out of my...
Might also consider Sierra 175 GK. According to Sierra it was developed with a high BC in mind and also for max velocity in 7 RM and 7 Bee. I believe it's got a thicker jacket than their lighter weight 7 mm offerings.
Take a look at Hodgdons on line data for 300 WM with 110 gr bullet. They list H4895 so if you ve got any of that I d suggest trying it. Per Hodgdon you can go as low as 60% of their max load with H4895. I would NOT down load that big case with any other powder personally.
I ve done the 60%...
Update:
Friend sent his rifle back and said refund or fix it. Fierce returned it 2 weeks later and said they 'polished chamber'. It's extracting fired cases, all brands, fine now.
I sent Hornady brass to Hornady and Nosler brass to Nosler from the non extracting lots. Nosler said that we were...
Bobnob, knowing to start low and work up would you mind sharing your H4895 charge weight?
I have 4-5 lbs of it all the same lot.
Maybe it ll work as good or better than Varget in the short barrel of my 223 with 65 GK.
Thank you.
Thanks Mike!
I m getting 2850 fps with 25.7 grs of Varget. Assuming my 8# Lot is slower than QL estimate. No extractor marks, sticky bolt, etc. Might take it up 2 or 3 tenths and see how things look. QL is projecting 30 fps or so for such increases; we ll see.
Thx again.
Searched but no luck ... would someone be kind enough to run a QL for me on the following:
20" barrel
223 Rem
65 gr GameKings
OAL 2.220
Varget
I just had my barrel shortened from 24" to 20" and my old load still shoots fine at 3/4" MOA but I ve lost 150 fps so wanting to see if I might be able...
Had a test target with gun. Supposedly 150 Etip. One cold bore shot and then 3 shot group measuring .575 ish. Didn't specify what weight of sledgehammer was used to open bolt. lol
If in fact that target was fired by a 'tester', he or she s/b dismissed from their job IMO for letting that rifle...
Factory Nosler Custom, 175 ABLR, stuck same or slightly worse than Retumbo loads. Friend has been in contact with manufacturer and rifle went back today I believe.
He also talked with Mike S at Nosler technical services and according to Mike they ve been having issues with other Fierce owners...
Desert, I concur, gonna turn a couple and then see what happens. Have access to borescope so mightvwant to look chamber over closely. If issues friend will need to decide if he wants to send back or try his own fix... any fooling with rifle and warranty will most likely be voided!
Fotis, 2850, 2837 and 2813 fps. All three had the sticky bolt right when hitting the extraction part. A rap with the soft part of my palm got them to release; not right though.
Carefully measured fired brass and necks outside are .319 while inside is .283 ish... bullet won't side into fired...
Most the guys that I shoot with also favor 75 s. I have 500 or so VLD s left thus my desire to burn those.
In head to head comparison with pretty much identical velocities the 80 shot 1 to 1.5 MOA flatter at 1140 yds. Stated BC actually favors 75 slightly. Guess that's why you verify actual...
Friend just received his newly ordered Fierce CT in 28 Nosler I was recruited, as normal, to help him breakin barrel and find a load.
New Hornady brass he brought me with 180 gr ELDMs and Retumbo. For first shot I used 77 grs of powder which is a starting range per Hodgdon data. Bullet .010...
