We had a few days left before my buddy laves state so we ran up towards Denali for a quick bear hunt at a place I regularly see bears at.
We got up there about 4pm and ran up to a nice high looking point to set up camp. I was putting in the 4th corner tent stake when I saw a black bear...
I’ll take a spike/fork every time. Excellent meat, and easier to handle. Don’t get me wrong I’d happily shoot a big bull, but I just can’t let all that meat walk away when I see a legal bull.
I just got back from a successful moose hunt. I lucked into a nice spike bull on opening evening.
The weeks of rain left the trail conditions in very poor shape. It took us several hours to get out to where we were hunting. A lot of getting stuck and winching out of mud holes. We finally...
I have a couple of 6.5s in the safe. The 6.5 PRC has become a favorite cartridge.
I have a Seekins havak with a vortex razor LHT 3-15x42. This rifle has become a go to for anything short of moose with the 124gr hammer hunter @ 3210fps.
The second is a full custom built by crescent customs...
I’m not one to push a cartridge too hard. I’ll take accuracy over velocity any day of the week. Too many people try to ring every last drop out of thier cartridge and tread into dangerous waters.
I loaded another set of loads with this load as the max. If it continues to shoot this well I...
I took my recently rebarreled NULA 24 in 25/06 to the range today.
I loaded up some 115gr nosler ballistic tips and 125gr hammer hunters.
I started with 55.5gr of retumbo with the 115gr noslers. 55.5gr got me 2940fps and 56gr got me 2970fps. I was getting slight ejector marks on the...
Retumbo and 225gr accubonds hit moose like a hammer! I have found all the RUMs to be very accurate and easy to load for. It’s everything the 338 lapua is and fits much better in the Remington action than a lapua. For me there just wasn’t room between the 300 and 375 RUM SO I LET MY 338 go...
I loaded up some 210 TTSX with some H414. Started with a mid load of 65gr. As expected it shot lights out. 3 shots well inside of an inch at 100 yards and inside 2.5” at 200 yards.
What was unexpected was that I am really starting to like that PST G2 1-6 much better than I thought I...
The jacket is thicker on the 200, the 212 draws it out a touch longer making it a thinner jacket and more explosive bullet. That’s why the recommend the 200gr ELDX for bigger elk/moose over the 212 unless longer ranges are more likely.
I was listening to Back country hunter podcadt when he...
Those 2.5x leupolds are a great option in a big bore levergun. It’s the most durable of the leupold optics. I have had a few of them over the years. My favorite had the German n1 post reticle.
The salt is very minimal, I’ve shot it dozens of times around the house and haven’t noticed it piling up. It is almost too much fun. I’ve been leaving the door open to lure more flies in.
After playing with one at a buddy’s house last weekend I had to get one for myself. This is honestly an extremely fun little extermination tool. I have racked up a pretty impressive body count in the last few days.
A fly can be surprisingly difficult target on the wing.
I have a 50 cal flintlock that I haven’t shot in several years. I keep meaning to get it out and shoot it but just haven’t gotten around to it.
That 30-30 pump looks like a sweet little rifle. Handy mild recoil and quick follow up shots.
