There has been a lot of criticism of Winchester brass the past few years. I'm still shooting Winchester brass I bought back over a decade ago but it's not how old the brass is but how often it is worked/fired. I have experienced issues like that which @Guy Miner mentioned and it is frustrating...
Completely agree. at short ranges The 22WMR can be quite effective on a number of species. Hence it's on my list of calibres that don't get much love. It's mostly forgotten.
neck shots mostly and behind the ear. As I said he is a proficient hunter, not a shooter. I once hit a medium sized pig (~60kg) with my 30-06, and it took his skull off and you could see down to his brain as he lay there trying to get back up. Hunting isn't only about the calibre size but...
I guess in the absence of a statement from Nosler, we are left with the enjoyable past time of reflective conjecture. Their bullets are very good quality though these days a number of other manufacturers have improved to the same level if not above (IMO), however they have managed to do so in...
An interesting question and a lot of interesting responses from people . When I think of the "much love" part of the question, I'm thinking about commercially available (at least in most gunships not necessarily universally) still but really not talked about much, at least in common...
Ok so you're using an auto dispenser opposed to just a digital scale? I have actually considered one of them (RCBS) but I'm still unsure how much quicker they are if anything. Like you my business takes a lot of time so if I can get a material saving in time then I'm in, though it sounds like...
I have never used an electronic scale to load ammo. I still use the same old Redding beam scale I bought way back when. I do own a Hornady electronic scale and use it very occasionally to weight "stuff" or when making larger adjustments to my powder thrower if I even needed to because I didn't...
I'm still crying in my beer over a Sako 30-06 Finbear Deluxe in 30-06 that I sold about 15 years ago. Oh what I would do to undo that....awesome rifle, awesome cartridge
I have few boxes of Hornady brass but I typically don't shoot expensive brass as I never go on a hunt and return with all my brass, particularly 30-30. I'd be too busy looking for spent cases than focusing on follow shots on a mob of pigs because I'm a tight arse. $2-$3 for a piece of brass is...
I'd just FLS them, check them over and use them. I don't anneal, not that I don't understand the benefits, it's just a cost and extra step for something I don't really need. I have brass loaded now that I first loaded ~15 years ago. A reflection on use given I don't put that many holes in...
I wouldn't be too worried about lubing cases and not getting it on the shoulder. I spray all mine with Hornady Oneshot and while some have had issues I never had....no idea what they do to have issues but I never had in a decade and a half. Regardless, I do occasionally give my dies a good...
I own both the 7mm-08 and a 270win. I wasn't really after the 270win but I wanted a BRNO ZKK 600 and it was the only calibre about at the time. I use my 7/08 way more than my 270win as it is a much lighter and nicer rifle to walk around in the bush with. The 270win is a very good calibre but...
A good learning and good advice from previous posters. I haven't used the 150 AB's in my 7-08 but have used the 140's on pigs and brumbies. Like other have mentioned I don't think the issue is projectile in this instance. Out of curiosity, what were you doing for 15min while it was on the...
Agreed. I'd use my 223 if I was shooting 55gn'ers. All my 243 ammo is loaded with 90's. Mind you I'll give some thought to perhaps using it as a varmint rifle for those longer ranges where I will want a thump that the 223 can't dish out. Thanks for the idea.
What are you planning on hunting and at what distance? if it were mine and hunting dear or pigs, I'd actually load down from your 75.6grains but still look to keep it close to 3000 fps 2950 maybe....to be honest 2900 with good grouping would make me happy as those 200 ELD-X's will drop pigs and...
Varget ('08) is my go to for my 7-08. I'm kinda wondering what to do with 243 as I just don't shoot it. Not that it's not capable, it is. I just find myself using my 7-08 much more. If I didn't have so many 6mm projectiles then I would let my 243 go. You'll love the 7mm-08
If that's the case then I would go the 160gn projectile. What you are hunting and those distances the game will not know any difference. Plus if your mate is budget sensitive, then the 160's will be cheaper
Those distances on those game with that cartridge, I'd be leaning to the Hot-Cor instead of the Grand Slam which has a thicker jacket. People have gone quite concerning the Hot-Cor for some reason but they are extremely capable especially out to 200m. I think I read a survey one time where...
