I have a couple of marlins that I purchased specifically for loaners. I threw a Nikon prostaff on each one of them and don't care how many scratches they receive. The smiles on the faces of the borrowers is priceless.
If you think of cartridges as women, the.25 WSSM is the short fat girl, the 25-06 is the tall skinny girl, and the .257 Weatherby is the girl with curves in all the right places!
Nice shooting. It was a beautiful day here as well. I usually start my loads as long as I can get them and work them deeper .010 at a time. Sometimes it takes more than the .030 that these targets show to find the magic seating depth.
I'm no ballistician but a bullet with a higher BC would retain the velocity and energy farther than the current 110 Accubond even if it was the same weight. Better BC = flatter trajectory and less wind drift
I'm quite certain my .257 Wby shooting a bullet with a similar BC to a 6.5 129ABLR...
All I want NEW is .257 ABLR.
Since I'm dreaming I might as well add, I'd like to see an over abundance of Nosler seconds at SPS of all of the bullets I'm currently in need of for other calibers as well.
Am I the only one who wants an Accubond LR in .257? I think it would be the only bullet I would ever need for my .257 Weatherby. Can we start a petition?
I bought my wife the Marlin XS7 as well. She had to have the stainless barrel though. For a $400 rifle in a plastic stock the thing shoots under an inch with anything I feed it. And I don't cry after every scratch it receives in the woods.
Excellent stories with many lessons learned. I'm not too proud to admit that I've learned many lessons the hard way as well. My very first black bear hunt I had a chance at an absolute giant (500lbs +). I had a real close look at him from 12 yds! I talked myself into using my bow that year...
Thanks guys! I just received the results of the cementum-annuli analysis. My buck was aged at 7.5 years. I used a company from texas called Wildlife Analytical Labs for the forensic aging. I was very pleased with their customer service and will use them again in the future.
A couple of weeks...
I did a DIY Alaska moose hunt in 2013. The weather royally sucked till the day we flew home. It ran me about $3500 round trip including the tag. Had I harvested one it would have cost a little more to fly it out of the bush because additional flight time would have been necessary. It was simply...
